BIHR talks to Bright Blue

28 April 2017   Today, our Deputy Director, Sanchita Hosali, spoke to Bright Blue, an independent think tank for liberal conservatism, about human rights. In the podcast Sanchita discusses the role of human rights in the general election, and BIHR’s position that all political parties should be protecting and promoting human rights as a key part of our democracy. In particular she discusses the UK’s role in creating the European Convention on Human Rights, a movement championed by conservative politicians in the aftermath of World War II. Moving to the Human Rights Act, Sanchita discusses how this makes the human rights in the Convention real at home. Drawing on BIHR’s work in health and social care, Sanchita flags the importance of the Human Rights Act is supporting both public officials and people receiving services, to ensure care is rights-respecting, protecting the equal dignity of all.   You can listen to the podcast here.   To find out more…
