Um Abdo and her family have become internally displaced by the war in Syria, where 2021 marks a decade of the conflict. Violence, displacement and humanitarian needs continue to grow, putting Syria third in the IRC’s emergency watchlist of humanitarian crises for the coming year. Despite this, Um Abdo has been able to support her family by sewing masks at home for the IRC’s mask-making project. The program provides vulnerable Syrians with an income to create life-saving masks that we deliver to the community for free.
The International Rescue Committee helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their future.
