Gourmet chocolate company Lake Champlain Chocolate has launched its first line of vegan chocolate truffles in time for Valentine’s Day. The company is expanding its offerings after noticing an increase in demand for vegan products. Last year, Lake Champlain’s Innovation and Product Development Manager Kate Brown began experimenting with developing a truffle—the first product the company launched in 1983—without its traditional animal-derived ingredients such as cream and butter. After some experimentation, Brown landed on a coconut-based recipe for a vegan truffle.
The square truffles come in two flavors—Dark Chocolate and Red Raspberry—both made with fair-trade chocolate and organic coconut cream. They are available in six-piece ($18) and 16-piece ($48) gift boxes online and in the company’s retail stores in Burlington, VT.

In addition to the new chocolate truffles, Lake Champlain offers dairy-free dark chocolate bars in flavors such as Hazelnut Crunch, Lightly Salted, and Crunchy Quinoa; Dark Chocolate Almond Bark, snack bites, and hot chocolate.
