The retrial of Turkish forensic expert Şebnem Korur Fincancı began yesterday, 3rd February 2021. Ms. Fincancı faces charges of terrorist propaganda for participating in a press freedom campaign in support of newspaper Özgür Gündem. Last year, IOHR interviewed her about her work in Turkey – since 1990, she has helped 17,000 victims of torture – and her involvement in the press freedom initiative that has brought her back to trial today.
