Women-owned Shops Are Being Forced Out of Business During COVID

After immigrating to the US from Venezuela in the early 2000s, Marian Mavarez had achieved the American dream: she opened two successful restaurants, employed other immigrants, and supported herself, her mother and son while doing what she loved — cooking. But COVID has decimated her businesses; she already had to close one of her restaurants last year. VICE News follows Mavarez on the last day as a business owner, as she is forced to close her remaining restaurant.
