Do Police Use Their Power to Abuse Their Partners?

What happens when the person abusing you works for the very organisation that is meant to protect you?

When she was just an intern at the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, Alexandra Heal uncovered a shocking story of how police officers abuse their partners – and get away with it.

Through speaking to women across the UK, Alexandra pieced together a pattern of how abusers within their ‘boys club’ of a police force used their powers to intimidate and harass their partners, even getting them arrested.

After her story broke, Alexandra pooled her resources with Nogah Ofer, a solicitor from the Women’s Centre for Justice, who lodged a ‘super-complaint’ with the police to highlight the systemic failures that lead to police officers acting with impunity, and how to make meaningful changes.
