Saba Salman: How the Human Rights Act Helps Disabled People Live the Lives they Want

In a recent article, Saba Salman reported on concerns that the Government’s Rights Removal Bill will leave disabled people in vulnerable positions, without the support and opportunities they require to lead fulfilling lives. The stories include which BIHR has been amplifying: The British Institute of Human Rights has highlighted how a parent used the Human Rights Act to challenge mental health hospitals over the treatment of her autistic son. The teenager was held in institutions between the ages of 14 and 18, handcuffed, transported in a cage and locked in a seclusion cell.
