With National Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Month (September) well underway, a pack of PETA supporters will brandish signs that read, “President Banks: Release the 9 Healthy Dogs Now,” outside The Fort Worth Club on Friday as Texas A&M University President M. Katherine Banks delivers a speech to the Rotary Club of Fort Worth. PETA is calling for the release of nine healthy dogs who were transferred from the school’s notorious canine muscular dystrophy laboratory to veterinary school cages instead of being put up for adoption as the university had pledged to do.

Where:    Outside The Fort Worth Club, 307 W. Seventh St. (near the intersection with Throckmorton Street), Fort Worth

“These nine dogs have never had soft beds where they can sleep, leisurely days spent in the sunshine, or families to protect them,” says PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo. “They aren’t needed for experiments, PETA has offered to take them all, and we’re calling on President Banks to make that happen.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
