The Missile Crisis seems to have revealed just how ineffective the UN was/is. The League of Nations had proven to be a pointless exercise in futility. Nation-States will aggressively pursue perceived historical and political corrections, especially regarding territorial claims, with force, when they hold an advantage. The UN was meant to be a reinforced barrier to war, and it was essentially laughed away by nuclear powers on the permanent “Security Council,” who decide just about everything on the planet, from systems to resources.
