Urgent: Orlando, Florida, Dogs May Be Returned to Abuser Despite Criminal Investigation Into Beatings

When PETA received the shocking video below, we immediately contacted authorities in Orlando, Florida, to investigate the possible abuse of two dogs. The video begins with the sound of a dog yelping and shows a male abuser seemingly attempting to get a pit bull puppy into a crate on the patio of an apartment. The helpless puppy shrieks in pain as the abuser uses a stick to repeatedly stab him through the bars of the crate. We’re told that the abuser has been seen abusing him on multiple occasions by kicking him, putting him in a chokehold and carrying him by the neck, and whipping him with a stick. We’re also told that yelps of distress were frequently heard coming from inside the apartment and that the puppy was sometimes left in the crate for extended periods, including overnight.

Warning: Graphic footage

After an initial visit by Orlando police and Orange County Animal Services resulted in no action, PETA requested that the case be reopened. Thankfully, officials dug deeper into the evidence, seized the pit bull puppy and another dog, and are considering felony charges for cruelty to animals. Shockingly, however, PETA has since been informed by Animal Services that because a veterinarian found the dogs to be uninjured, they’ll be returned to their abuser. To make matters worse, we’ve also received news that a third dog may have been brought into the home.

Please contact the officials listed below and urge them to keep the dogs safe in custody, as is provided for by Florida Statutes Title XLVI, Chapter 828.073, and ask them to confiscate any additional animals brought into the home. Rude comments work against our efforts, so please be polite and respectful.
