President Biden to visit NYC to tout funding for Hudson Tunnel Project

Web Desk:

According to the national media, President Joe Biden will visit New York City next week to tout funding for the Hudson River train tunnel project.

A White House spokesperson confirmed that the president plans to visit the Big Apple on Tuesday, Jan. 31, noting the President will discuss how Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding for the Hudson River Tunnel project will improve reliability for the 200,000 passenger trips per weekday on Amtrak and New Jersey Transit.

The tunnel in need of repair is 112 years old and was damaged during Hurricane Sandy.

The project would repair an existing tunnel and build a new one for Amtrak and NJ Transit commuter lines between New Jersey and Manhattan. The federal government, New York, and New Jersey will split the estimated price tag of $16.1 billion. Federal funding will pay for half, while the two states will put up 25% each.

Construction is slated to begin in 2024 and be completed by 2038.
