Industrial accidents kill thousands of people and disable thousands of others every year in India. According to the government, at least 6,500 workers died on the job between 2017 and 2021. Labour activists say the figure could be higher. With the aim of becoming an industrial power, India focuses on encouraging investment and innovation, but work-related tragedies keep making the news in the country.
