13 passengers injured in Queens train derailment

New York: At least 13 passengers injured when a train suddenly derailed on the Long Island Railroad in the borough of Queens, New York.

The injured were taken to the hospital for immediate medical assistance.

The train derailed on the Long Island Railroad in Jamaica, New York’s borough of Queens, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said.

MTA officials say that of the 13 injured passengers, 9 have suffered minor, 2 moderate and 2 severe injuries.

Train No. 722, traveling at 54 mph on the Long Island Railroad in Queens, derailed around 11 a.m. at 175th Street near 93rd Avenue, east of Jamaica Station, according to MTA officials.

After which emergency rescue operations were started. The passengers were shifted to hospital with the help of rescue train.

MTA Chairwoman Jano Lieber said commuters may experience travel disruptions for a day due to repair work after the accident.
