Judge Cármen Lúcia Antunes Rocha cast the deciding vote convicting that Bolsonaro of trying to cling to power by force. She then condemned what she called an attempt to “sow the malignant seed of anti-democracy” in Brazil – but said that the country had resisted the attempt.
“Brazilian democracy was not shaken”, she said.
The verdict came despite US sanctions on judges involved in the case in an attempt to deter them from a conviction.
