PJP holding Venezuela online emergency briefing tonight

Jeremy Corbyn’s Peace and Justice Project (PJP) is holding an online emergency briefing this evening from 7pm about US threats and attacks on Venezuela and its socialist government.

Trump, who has long eyed Venezuela’s natural riches, has ordered the murder of dozens of Venezuelan fishermen. This is in clear violation of international law and the laws of war. He has also authorised US intelligence services to conduct hostile operations. Now he is backing Maria Corina Machado, a war-hungry figure. She promises to sell almost two trillion dollars of Venezuelan oil, minerals, and other assets to US corporations. Observers suspect she is being groomed to replace elected president Nicolas Maduro.

PJP outlined the purpose for its briefing this evening:

In response to these deeply concerning events and Donald Trump’s escalations in in Latin America and across the Caribbean, we are hosting an emergency call to discuss campaigning and the next organising steps we can take in order to prevent any more threats, interference and the disastrous war Trump craves.
Join ‘Venezuela: Defending The Zone of Peace & Organising Against Trump’s War’ with our founder Jeremy Corbyn MP, Venezuelan Ambassador Felix Plasencia, Richard Burgon MP, Venezuela Solidarity Campaign national secretary Francisco Dominguez, and journalist Carolina Graterol at 7PM on Monday 8 December.

Any US military intervention in Venezuela would undoubtedly bring death, destruction and instability to the region, and must be avoided at all costs.

Therefore, it is crucial that we understand the situation on the ground in Venezuela and across the Caribbean and ensure that the British government, along with others around the world, strongly oppose Trump’s cynical and catastrophic plans.

Those who wish to participate can book a place here.
