On Dec. 6, people across the United States marched. They protested. They carried banners: No war on Venezuela. No blood for oil. US hands off Venezuela. They chanted and waved Venezuelan flags.
Trump says he’s coming to remove Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. He’s promised it’s only a matter of time. The United States has amassed the largest military buildup in the Caribbean since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.
But according to a recent CBS poll, 70% of Americans are opposed to US military action in Venezuela. And over the weekend, those voices were loud. Marches against US military intervention. Transcript
“Now at 10, a nation-wide outcry against president Trump’s threats of attacks against Venezuela and controversial attacks on boats in the Caribbean.”
On Dec. 6, people across the United States marched. They protested. They stood up in dozens of cities around the country. They carried banners: No war on Venezuela. No blood for oil. Leave Venezuela alone!
Thousands of US service members are stationed in the Caribbean at the ready.
Trump—without evidence—says Maduro is the head of an international gang running drugs into the United States. It’s the same excuse the United States has used for decades in Latin America to pursue its foreign policy goals. Experts say Venezuela isn’t even a top route for drugs into the US.
Those in the streets were vocal.
According to a recent CBS poll, 70% of Americans are opposed to US military action in Venezuela. And over the weekend, those voices were loud—marches in more than 65 cities. Marches against US military intervention. Against the ongoing US boat strikes in the Caribbean and Pacific. Against Trump rhetoric that claims to applaud peace, while carrying out and threatening violence at home and abroad—violence against Venezuela.

Hi, folks. Thanks for listening. I’m your host, Michael Fox.
I hope you think of this story as part two to the one I released last Friday about the Latin America solidarity movement of the 1980s. Kind of an update in the present of how people today are continuing to stand up to US actions and intervention in the region, 40 years later.
These protests were held on Saturday, Dec. 6, in cities around the US.
For a deep look at the history of US intervention in Latin America, you can check out my podcast Under the Shadow. The first season was about the US role in Central America; in particular, in the 1980s. In the coming weeks, I’m going to be releasing new bonus episodes about Trump’s boat attacks in the Caribbean and the US buildup for war in Venezuela. I’ll add a link in the show notes. Please keep an eye out for that.
If you have not heard, I have more incredible news. You might remember that Stories of Resistance recently won a Gold Signal award for best history podcast. Well it has also won a Gold Anthem Award in the category of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We are honored.
This is episode 80 of Stories of Resistance. If you don’t already subscribe to the show you can follow the links in the show notes. Stories of Resistance is produced by The Real News. Each week I bring you stories of resistance and hope like this. Inspiration for dark times. And please, if you like what we do, rate us, leave a comment or a review, and help us spread the word.
As always, thanks for listening. See you next time.
