New York: Like every year, the American Council of Minority Women (ACMW), a social organization consisting of Pakistani American women, celebrated the fourth annual Day of Dignity on Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn, New York City.
Various items were distributed among more than five hundred families in collaboration with Islamic Relief USA. Volunteers participated overwhelmingly and filled the stalls with winter essentials for the needy.
ACMW Chairperson Baza Ruhi and representative of Islamic Relief USA said that every year it is an effort to do something for our community without hurting anyone’s self-esteem.
On the Day of Dignity, a team of doctors examined the patients, fresh food, warm clothes, children’s school kits and hygiene products were distributed to the needy in the queues.
On this occasion, Pakistani Consul General Amir Ahmad Atozai said that the Pakistani community has always made the nation proud by coming to the aid of the needy.
On the Day of Dignity, Assemblyman Robert Carroll, Councilwoman Farah Louis, Councilwoman Rita Joseph, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and Deputy Public Advocate Kashif Hussain also came to lend a hand in this good cause.
The American officials appreciated this effort of ACMW and called it admirable.
The American politicians inspected all the stalls, met the doctors and volunteers, got information from them and also encouraged them.
In the end, the American Council of Minority Women presented certificates of appreciation to its volunteers and journalists in recognition of their services.
