A former white police officer has been convicted in the murder of a black George Floyd in the United States.
The jury found Derek Chavan, a 45-year-old former police officer, guilty of all three charges. Chavan was taken into custody and could face up to several years in prison. According to the White House, after the jury’s decision, President Biden telephoned George Floyd’s family. It should be noted that the murder of the black American George Floyd took place in May 2020. The video showed a police officer holding Floyd’s neck tightly by his knee.
Derek Chavan held Floyd’s knees on his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Medical examiners reported that Floyd lost consciousness 3 minutes later.
