Please see the following statement from PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo regarding a citation posted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture against the University of California–Davis for the death of a newborn lamb whose head was caught in an enclosure:
A newborn lamb lived for just hours and endured a terrifying death because the University of California–Davis cannot or will not provide adequate and safe housing for the animals it imprisons. PETA has filed a complaint with the National Institutes of Health, which indiscriminately dumps millions of research dollars on the university, and strongly urges the agency to suspend all funding to the school. UC Davis doesn’t deserve one more penny from taxpayers.
UC-Davis must redirect its resources toward modern, non-animal research methods that will actually help humans, and we urge officials there to adopt PETA’s Research Modernization Deal.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org, listen to The PETA Podcast, or follow the group on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, or Instagram.
