A gambler backed by PETA won a settlement in a lawsuit that sought recourse when the horses he bet on lost to another who had been given illegal drugs. Jeff Tretter got a $20,000 settlement against a trainer and owner at the Meadowlands racetrack, in a case believed to be a landmark for gamblers who bet on a sport prone to cheating through illegal drug use. Kathy Guillermo, Sr.VP at PETA, and the lead on horse racing issues, talks about the impacts on racing and how it could impact the industry as it approaches the biggest race of the year, the Kentucky Derby.
