‘Bad Boys’ Star Paola Nuñez Partners with a Good Boy in New Pro-Adoption PETA Latino Campaign

Paola Nuñez is a ride or die for companion animals! In a sweet new video for PETA Latino, the Bad Boys actor and her good boy “swipe right” on compassion.

Snuggled up on the couch with her adopted dog Ezequiel, Nuñez scrolls through Petfinder—an online database where people can find adoptable cats and dogs in their area—to show everyone adoption is the only option when it comes to adding a companion animal to the family. She gives Ezequiel the lowdown on the companion animal overpopulation and homelessness crisis, explaining how even those looking for a specific breed can find their perfect partner at an animal shelter via Petfinder.com.

“Look, Ezekiel, when someone is ready to add a new member to their family, the best and only option is to adopt,” says Nuñez. “Now, it doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a dog or a cat or a certain breed—you’ll definitely find them at your local shelter or at Petfinder.com.”

Why Choose Adoption?

At any given time in the U.S., there are millions of homeless dogs and cats struggling to survive on the streets, where they may be hit by cars, attacked by other animals or cruel humans, or catch deadly diseases. Many freeze to death when temperatures drop in the winter or die from heat exhaustion in the summer. Additionally, all over the country, shelters are overflowing with animals. Many shelters adhere to “no kill” policies, which means they often turn away animals in need. Buying animals fuels this crisis; every time someone purchases a puppy or kitten from a breeder or pet store, an animal awaiting adoption at a shelter loses their chance at finding a home.

There’s no excuse to buy an animal, period. Virtually any type of dog can be found in a shelter or through a breed-specific rescue group—and as Nuñez points out in the video, “purebreds” make up a whopping 25 percent of dogs in animal shelters.

Nuñez is part of a long list of celebrities—including Kathy GriffinLisa Ann WalterRon PerlmanTom HardyJohn StamosRyan EggoldTheo Rossi, and Cristin Milioti—who have teamed up with PETA entities to promote adoption.

What You Can Do

It’s humans’ job to help curb the companion animal homelessness and overpopulation crisis that causes countless animals to suffer. Here are a few ways you can do your part in your own community:

  • Donate to PETA’s “Spay and Neuter Immediately, Please” (SNIP) mobile clinic, which provides free and low-cost spay/neuter services to underserved communities.
  • Always spay and neuter your companion animals and encourage others to do the same.
  • Pledge to adopt and never shop if you are ready for the lifetime commitment of caring for a companion animal. Share PETA’s “Adopt, Don’t Shop” pledge to spread the word.
  • Hold fundraisers for local spay-and-neuter clinics so that they can waive the costs for low-income individuals and at-risk animals.
