Far-right US political activist Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, is in critical condition – and by some reports, including a Truth Social post by Donald Trump, dead – after being shot while speaking at a public right-wing event. Kirk was hit in the neck and immediately slumped after apparently being hit in a main artery:

Charlie Kirk: dead

Kirk was an ardent opponent of gun control. Speaking after the 2023 mass shooting at the Christian Covenant School in Nashville, which killed six people including children, Kirk said that mass shooting deaths were unfortunately “worth it” to preserve Second Amendment rights in the US.

Kirk suffered a public backlash recently when he said that about the Epstein Files detailing the activities of alleged paedophiles close to the convicted child trafficker Jeffrey Epstein that he had decided to ‘believe his friends’, like Trump. Two days before his death, Jezebel magazine said it had “paid some Etsy witches to curse” Kirk, whom they called a “far-right misogynist”.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said on X that he is “praying for Charlie Kirk”.

A suspected shooter was arrested at the scene but has now been released. AP News has suggested that Kirk was shot from a 200-yard range, potentially suggesting a military or other trained marksman.
