Contrary to media reports, Keir Starmer has not sacked Peter Mandelson over the latest revelations of his extreme closeness to serial child-rapist Jeffrey Epstein.

Mandelson: down but not out?

He has been removed from his post as UK ambassador to the US – but remains a UK government employee and probably still on the government payroll. The Foreign Office has refused to answer enquiries because they say it is an “HR issue”.

There has still been no comment from Number 10 whether Mandelson remains a senior adviser to Keir Starmer – and Starmer’s spokesman refused to rule out a senior public role for him in future.
