Two supporters of Take Back Power delivered an ultimatum letter to the Prime Minister on 2 December. It demands that the government take necessary action to address spiralling wealth inequality in the UK.
Take Back Power is a new nonviolent civil resistance group demanding that the UK government establish a permanent citizens’ assembly – a House of the People, which has the power to tax extreme wealth and fix Britain.
David Currey, 23, and Ella Wilson, 24, delivered the letter to the Prime Minister.
A spokesperson for the group said:
We’ve had enough with runaway inequality and the rich pocketing billions whilst ordinary people struggle to get by. The super-rich are the reason we have kids going to bed hungry, unaffordable homes and shit in our rivers.”
They are profiting from killing children in Gaza and heating the world to boiling point. We feel powerless to change things, because they corrupt our politics and own our media. It’s time ordinary people- the people most affected by inequality, get a say in deciding how to tax wealth, through the means of a legally binding citizens’ assembly – a House of the People.
David Currey, from Gateshead, said:
Today we are launching Take Back Power because Britain is broken. We have millions of children in food poverty, our NHS is on its knees, and the far-right is on the rise. The answer to these crises is simple, we need to tax the rich.”
Due to the vested interests of our so-called representatives, this won’t be won by asking politely. So, we’re starting a campaign of civil disobedience which will end when our demand is met.
The letter delivery and campaign announcement follows Take Back Power supporters projecting messages onto the Houses of Parliament. These included ‘Inequality is growing’, ‘The rich are killing us’ and ‘Democracy is captured’.

Ella Wilson, a charity fundraiser from Manchester, said:
I don’t believe the power should lie in the hands of the people who can see the vast wealth inequality in our country and do nothing but make the problem worse.
What we want is for the people most affected by inequality to have their say on how to fix this mess. These are the people who represent us – neighbours, nurses, shop keepers. Not our government mouthing along to the words of the elite. So we will take action until we see a House of the People with powers to tax the rich.
Take Back Power is demanding that the UK government makes a statement that it will immediately establish a permanent House of the People, with the ability to tax extreme wealth in order to fix Britain.
Until this happens, it is our duty to undertake nonviolent direct action, in order to demand the changes necessary to protect the people of this country from the super-rich, who are driving us towards collapse. Donate or sign up to take action at TakeBackPower.net.
