PETA Awards Local Man for Rescuing Abandoned Puppy

A Compassionate Action Award is on its way from PETA to Aaron Kinsel, an employee of Rumpke, which offers waste and recycling services. He was working on the morning of December 27 when he noticed a backpack moving by the side of the road in Colerain Township.

Inside, he found a sick, freezing puppy. He rushed her to a veterinary clinic, where she was found to be dehydrated and have a broken leg that needed to be amputated. (Rumpke generously covered the costs.) The dog—a 10- to 12-week-old brindle-colored boxer mix whom Kinsel named Tipper—is recovering, and Kinsel plans to adopt her this weekend.

PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction on cruelty-to-animals charges of the person(s) responsible for the neglect and abandonment of this dog.

“This little puppy could easily have frozen to death or worse on the roadside had it not been for Aaron Kinsel’s compassion and quick action,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA urges everyone to follow his lead and come to the aid of animals in need, including by helping police identify the person who cruelly and illegally abandoned this dog.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way” and which opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview—urges anyone unable to care for an animal to seek help from local shelters.

PETA is sending Kinsel a framed certificate, a letter of congratulations, a box of delicious vegan cookies, and a basket of toys and treats for Tipper.

Anyone with information about this case should contact the Colerain Police Department at 513-321-2677.
