Please see the following statement from PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo in response to today’s announcement that there will not be a 2022 Triple Crown winner, as this year’s Kentucky Derby winner, Rich Strike, will not be racing in the Preakness Stakes:

PETA praises the owner and trainer of Rich Strike for not forcing him to compete in the Preakness Stakes after just two weeks of rest and recovery from the Kentucky Derby victory and a stressful post-race experience. Hopefully, this will prompt the racing industry to modernize the demanding Triple Crown schedule by extending the time between the three races to less-inhumane intervals of one month each, as PETA has long advocated.
