West Palm Beach a Winner in PETA’s National ‘Top 10 Vegan-Friendly Beach Towns’

The results are in for PETA’s 2022 list of the Top 10 Vegan-Friendly Beach Towns in the U.S., and West Palm Beach’s healthy assortment of vegan eateries—including delis, juice kitchens, and international restaurants—has landed it a spot on the list. In recognition, PETA has sent an award certificate to Mayor Keith James.

“From Darbster’s palm cakes and beet tartare to Kapow! Noodle Bar’s General Tso cauliflower and wild mushroom chow fun, West Palm Beach is dishing up some of the best vegan fare for holidaymakers and residents,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “West Palm Beach joins the other great beach towns on PETA’s list that are huge hot spots for the animal-friendly foods people are craving this summer.”

West Palm Beach’s many standout vegan eateries also include La Chia Vegana, which offers everything from avocado toast to Buffalo Shicken Mac and Cheese; PLANTA, where menu highlights include coconut ceviche and mushroom bao sliders; and Plant Based Mafia, where diners rave about the eggplant roll-ups and gnocchi in brown sugar “butter” sauce. The city also boasts plenty of vegan-friendly eateries, including Queen of Sheeba, whose menu is packed with classic vegan Ethiopian dishes made from vegetables and legumes, and Taste of India, which devotes an entire menu section to vegan fare such as okra masala, vegetable vindaloo, and kundapur vegetables in a coconut milk sauce.

Consumer demand has sent the vegan food market skyrocketing: It grew two and a half times faster in 2021 than it did between 2018 and 2020, and it’s expected to reach $22 billion by 2025. Each person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals a year; dramatically shrinks their carbon footprint; reduces their risk of developing heart disease, cancer, and diabetes; and helps prevent future pandemics. SARS, swine flu, bird flu, and COVID-19 all stemmed from confining or killing animals for food.

Rounding out PETA’s list are Atlantic City, New Jersey; Charleston, South Carolina; Galveston, Texas; Grand Haven, Michigan; Long Beach, New York; Nags Head, North Carolina; Newport, Rhode Island; Santa Cruz, California; and San Diego, California.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
