Experts have finally finds ways to extinguish a massive five-decade old fire in a giant natural gas crater, “Gateway to Hell” located in the Central Asian country, Turkmenistan.

President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said on state television briefing on Saturday that extinguish Darvaza gas crater in the middle of the vast Karakum desert.

Earlier in 2010, Berdymukhamedov also ordered experts to find a way to put out the flames that have been burning ever since a Soviet drilling operation went awry in 1971.

President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said that the man-made crater “negatively affects both the environment and the health of the people living nearby”.

“We are losing valuable natural resources for which we could get significant profits and use them for improving the well-being of our people,” he said in televised briefing.

Berdymukhamedov instructed officials to “find a solution to extinguish the fire”.

The crater was created during a Soviet drilling accident hit a gas cavern in 1971, causing the drilling rig to fall in and the earth to collapse beneath it.

To prevent the dangerous fumes from spreading, the Soviets decided to burn off the gas by setting it on fire.

The resulting crater 70 metres (229 feet) wide and 20 metres (65 feet) deep is a popular tourist attraction in the ex-Soviet country.

In 2018, the president officially renamed it to the “Shining of Karakum” and previous attempts to extinguish it have been unsuccessful.

Pakistan Mission to United Nations (New York) organized a webinar on the occasion of 73 years of adopting resolution Right to Self-Determination to Kashmiris, granted by the UN Security Council resolutions on dated 5 January 1949.

Permanent Representative of Pakistan to UN, Ambassador Munir Akram, moderated the webinar. Secretary General Kashmir Awareness Forum, Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, a renowned historian Ms. Victoria Schofield, Director of the Justice Foundation, Mr. Muzzamil Ayuub Thakur, Kashmir Institute of International Affairs, Professor Halil Toker, Mr. Lars Rise, Norwegian Politician and Professor Syed Hussain Shaheed Soherwordi among others panellists

Ambassador Akram highlights that last seven decades, India has denied the UN Security Council resolutions, including UNCIP resolution of 05 January 1949. India has also obstructed all attempts at holding a UN supervised plebiscite in violation of UNSC resolutions 47 (April 1948), 80 (March 1950), 91 (March 1951), 98 (December 1952), 122 (January 1957), 123 (February 1957), 126 (December 1957).

According to UN resolutions Kashmiris have right to self-determination. The final disposition of the State of Jammu and Kashmir will be accordance with the will of the people expressed through a free and fair poll conducted under United Nations, Ambassador regretted.

Ambassador Akram recalls the statement of PM. Imran Khan to UN General Assembly to the panellists that resumption of dialogue with India based on three conditions, a) reverse the unilateral and illegal instituted in IIOJK since 5 August 2019; b) stop oppression and human rights violations against the people of Jammu and Kashmir; and c) halt and reverse the demographic changes in the occupied territory.

While, briefing the participants, Ambassador Akram also said that India commits atrocities in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. During the last two years, India imprisoned the entire Kashmiri political leadership; illegally detained 13,000 Kashmiri youth; tortured many of them; extra-judicially killed hundreds of young Kashmiri boys; used rape as a weapon of war; put down peaceful protests violently, blinding with pellet guns; collective punishments by demolishing and burning entire neighborhoods and villages; and curtailed the freedom of religion and expression.

Kashmiri and the Pakistani diaspora in the United States and Europe could play a major part in generating such a support. Pakistan’ strategy on Jammu and Kashmir was threefold a) raising the issue at all international forums; b) reviving the legitimacy of the Kashmir cause and c) to deter and prevent Indian aggression against Pakistan, Ambassador Akram added.

Moreover Ambassador Akram added that India portray Kashmiri struggle as being externally sponsored and was designed to enable the Modi government to de-legitimize Kashmir cause.

Therefore, one of the key objectives of Pakistan’s foreign policy was to secure support within the capitals of the major countries which were partnered with India both strategically and economically to denounce the massive violations of human rights were taking place in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Webinar panellist also spoke and said that illegal and unilateral Indian action of 5th August 2019, turned IIOJK into world’s biggest open-air prison. A huge security clampdown in the occupied territory, communications blackout, and an excruciating curfew and deployment of additional troops.

Webinar panellist said that extremist “Hindutva’ inspired RSS-BJP Indian government for denying the people of IIOJK their basic human rights through its long and cruel occupation which had brought unimaginable suffering to the Kashmiri people.

Mr. Raees warsi presented his poetry and Ms. Muzdalfah presented Kashmiri youth’s perspective in her remarks.

While concluding the webinar, Ambassador Munir Akram called on the international community to act in support of the fundamental freedoms and basic human rights of Kashmiris. He reiterated that Pakistan would continue to extend all possible support to the Kashmiris till the realization of their unalienable right to self-determination in accordance with the UNSC resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

Despite Elon Musk’s dramatic stock selloff that briefly put a dent in Tesla’s share price in the final weeks of 2021, the company proved to investors that its core business remained solid.

Led by billionaire CEO Elon Musk, Tesla reported that it delivered 308,000 vehicles in the fourth quarter and 936,000 vehicles in 2021, which almost doubled the total shipment of 2020 with the increase of an 87 percent from the year before, despite the computer chip shortage that has disrupted auto production around the world.

“Great work by Tesla team worldwide!” Musk tweeted Sunday.

Analysts had expected the company to deliver around 270,000 vehicles in the fourth quarter and 897,000 vehicles for the full year. The overwhelming share of the deliveries was of the Model 3 sedan and the Model Y hatchback.

“This was a trophy case quarter for Musk & Co. with massive momentum moving into 2022,” Daniel Ives, an analyst at Wed bush Securities, a top Tesla analyst, tweeted Sunday.

Musk has set a lofty goal for Tesla to ramp up production to 20 million electric vehicles a year by 2030. That’s 20 times what it made last year.

“Let’s make the roaring ’20s happen!” the CEO tweeted Sunday.

Tesla increased sales despite a global shortage of computer chips, which serve as the brains for a variety of electronics, including engine controllers and touch screens. The shortage forced most automakers to idle some plants for weeks at a time and kept them from producing as many vehicles as they had planned.

“As a reminder, the legacy services for BlackBerry 7.1 OS and earlier, BlackBerry 10 software, BlackBerry Playbook OS 2.1, and earlier versions will no longer be available after January 4, 2022,” the statement reads. The shutdown means the phones will no longer reliably function for “data, phone calls, SMS and 9-1-1 functionality,” BlackBerry said.

This means all of its older devices not running on Android software will no longer be able to use data, send text messages, access the internet, or make calls, even to 911.

Dmitry Bergen, a Ukrainian artist, has created a unique and mystifying type of mask specializing in the creation of this type of mask.

Ukrainian artist creates these masks using machine elements. The user of the mask apparently transforms from a human to a hybrid of man and machine.

Wearing this mask makes a person look more like a machine, although this dazzling creation of theirs is not technically a steampunk or steam-powered mask as it does not contain moving components.

However, it is clear that this creation based on the legendary scientific literature can play an important role in creating a movement in this regard.

This talented artist started his work with a lightweight flimsy plastic mask, which is easy to shape, after which he turned it into a wearable mask by adding all kinds of decorative elements to it. The items he has used for this purpose include motorcycle parts, faulty camera lenses, and components for children’s metal toys. He uses almost all materials of a machine that can be deconstructed or can be reused.

Bill de Blasio, who vowed to fix New York City’s dysfunctional property tax reform system eight years ago when campaigning to be the city’s chief executive, released recommendations in his final days in office that include creating a new tax class for small residential and condo owners.

The outgoing mayor, who ends his second term on Dec. 31, released a final set of recommendations on Wednesday drafted by the New York City Advisory Commission on Property Tax Reform.

The final report entitled “The Road to Reform: A Blueprint for Modernizing and Simplifying New York City’s Property Tax System,” recommends sweeping changes to the current system, with a particular emphasis on smaller residential properties which the public and subject matter experts most often cited as having the greatest inequalities.

The final report expands on the initial recommendations released on January 31, 2020, and details targeted owner relief programs that will help low and moderate-income homeowners better afford their tax bills.

The commission’s primary recommendation is a new tax class for small residential properties, one to three-family homes, condominiums, cooperatives, and 4 to 10 unit rental buildings. This recommendation ends fractional assessments which differ by property class and confuse property owners and valuing property in this new residential-class based on sales-based market value, thereby ending the statutory requirement to value coops and condos based on comparable rental buildings.

Other recommendations from the de Blasio commission include:

Primary residents with incomes below $375,000 would receive a 20% property tax exemption based on sales-based market value. Those with incomes between $375,000 and $500,000 would receive exemptions between 4% and 16%.

Primary residents with incomes below $375,000 would receive an exemption of up to 30% based on their home’s sales-based market value. The exemption would decrease for higher-valued homes and, for those with incomes between $375,000 and $500,000, the exemption would be further reduced.

The commission also recommended a tax break for those with incomes below $90,550 who pay more than 10% of their income on property taxes would receive a tax abatement for the amount in excess of 10% of their income, up to a limit of $10,000; for those with incomes between $58,000 and $90,550, the benefit would be gradually reduced as income rises.

According to CNN, certain American citizens living or traveling abroad will be able to return to the United States if their passports have expired.

The US State Department issued a memo on December 28 that said citizens who fall under specific criteria will be able to return to their home country before March 31, 2022, on expired passports.

However, there are many conditions that apply. For one, not every expired US passport will be accepted as a return document. This exemption applies to American citizens who are currently abroad and returning to the United States (not leaving the country and going elsewhere) whose passports expired after January 1, 2020.

In addition, only certain kinds of passports are relevant. The expired document in question must have been an original 10-year passport, with exceptions for people who were younger than 15 when the passport was issued, because those are five-year passports. These passports must be unaltered and in the owner’s possession.

Americans, who fall under these criteria, can come back to the United States or a US territory until the end of March 2022. Short layovers are permitted, as some destinations do not have direct return flights to the United States.
