Israeli forces targeted and killed five journalists in a strike in central Gaza on Thursday, reportedly setting their vehicle ablaze as they were sleeping inside it. The journalists, with the al-Quds Today TV channel, were near the al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat refugee camp when Israel struck their van. Photos and videos circulating on social media showed that the van was clearly marked as a…
Beirut, December 26, 2024—Israeli forces killed five journalists and media workers with Al-Quds Al-Youm TV, a channel affiliated with the Islamic Jihad militant group, in a Thursday strike on their vehicle outside Al-Awda Hospital in central Gaza’s Nuseirat refugee camp. The Associated Press reported that footage showed the van had visible press markings.
“CPJ denounces Israel’s killing of five journalists working for Al-Quds Al-Youm TV,” said Carlos Martinez de la Serna, CPJ’s program director in New York. “The Israeli strike on their vehicle, which was clearly marked ‘Press,’ means that at least nine Gazan journalists have been killed in less than two weeks. The international community must act now to protect Palestinian journalists in Gaza and end Israel’s impunity for these killings.”
The five journalists killed on December 26 have been identified as:
Correspondent Faisal Abu Al Qumsan
Camera operator Ayman Al Gedi
Photographer and editor Fadi Hassouna
Editor Mohammed Al-Ladaa
Producer and fixer Ibrahim Sheikh Ali
An Israel Defense Forces spokesperson posted on social media platform X that those killed on December 26 were militants posing as journalists.
CPJ’s email to the IDF’s North America Media desk asking whether the journalists were targeted for their work or whether there was any evidence that they were militants did not receive an immediate response.
Earlier in December, Israeli forces killed four journalists in separate strikes on December 14 and 15.
I recently entered an Israeli consulate and submitted papers to formally renounce my citizenship. It was an unseasonably warm fall day and office workers on break were lounging by the pond in Boston Common. The night before had seen a particularly gruesome series of aerial attacks by Israel on refugee tent camps in Gaza. Even as Palestinians were still counting bodies or, in many cases…
Three newborn babies have frozen to death in Israel’s designated “humanitarian safe zone” in Gaza over the past two days, as Israeli authorities block the entry of nearly all cold weather supplies into the besieged enclave. The Gaza Health Ministry’s head, Munir al-Bursh, shared on social media that the babies were exposed to “extreme cold” in their tents on the beach in Al-Mawasi in south…
Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David, bishop of Kalookan, has condemned the state of Israel on Christmas Eve for its relentless attacks on Gaza that have killed tens of thousands of Palestinians.
“I can’t think of any other people in the world who live in darkness and are always in the shadow of death than them,” Caridinal David said in Filipino during the last Simbang Gabi Mass on Tuesday, December 24.
Cardinal David, 65, connected this to the Christmas message by leading churchgoers to reimagine Jesus’ birth.
A biblical scholar educated at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium, David has often emphasised “the role of imagination” in interpreting the Bible.
Cardinal David, known for his defence of human rights, especially during Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs, said Catholics should not “romanticise” the manger at Bethlehem.
“I think that if the Holy Family were to look for an inn today, they would not stay in Bethlehem but in the Gaza Strip and find a collapsed house in which to give birth to the Son of God,” the cardinal said.
Cardinal David said he understood that many Filipinos showed great sympathy toward Israel because the Philippines was a Christian-majority country.
Endorsed Pope’s ‘cruelty’ criticism
In addition, many Filipinos work in Israel under Jewish employers. “So it is but natural that many Filipinos would feel greater affinity with the Israelis,” he said.
Cardinal David said, however, that Israel’s airstrikes on Gaza should not be condoned. He echoed Pope Francis who recently said that Israel’s bombing of Palestinians, including children, “is cruelty.” and who also criticised Israel in his Christmas message.
The Israel in the Bible was a far cry from the state of Israel, Cardinal David added.
The biblical Israel is not the same Israel now at war with Hamas, as the following Rappler video explainer shows. The Israel in the Bible, called Judea, was destroyed by the Roman Empire in the second century, and the current state of Israel was established in 1948.

“It is no longer an Israel that is disadvantaged and defenseless and oppressed by the powerful, but an Israel that is aggressive, at an advantage in war, and supported by world powers,” Cardinal David said.
Israel, he explained, should learn from the biblical experience of David, who mistakenly thought he only needed to build God a temple to attain elusive peace.
It is the other way around, he said, and God is the one who will build a temple for David.
“That will not happen as long as we treat each other as enemies,” said Cardinal David.
‘A God of love’
“No matter our religion, culture, or race, we all come from the same God — a God of love, a God who humbles, a God who does not call for revenge or exacts punishment but a God who forgives,” the cardinal added.
As a cardinal, David is one of 253 clergymen chosen as advisers to the leader of the 1.4-billion-strong Catholic Church. He is also one of 140 cardinals below the age of 80, who are eligible to join the next papal election.
The war in Gaza was triggered by Hamas’ October 7, 2023 attack on southern Israel, in which 1139 people were killed and 251 taken hostage to Gaza.
Israel’s campaign against Hamas in Gaza has since killed more than 45,200 Palestinians, according to health officials in the Hamas-run enclave. Most of the population of 2.3 million has been displaced and much of Gaza is in ruins.
In these difficult times, the voice of the late Palestinian-American scholar, Edward Said is ever present, “Writing is the final resistance we have against the inhuman practices and injustices that disfigure human history.”
For more than fourteen painful months Israel has passed off its inhuman actions against the people of Gaza as “defensive.”
We are to believe that the massacre of tens of thousands of civilians and attacks on its Arab neighbors are somehow Israel’s “right.” Championed by the Biden administration, Tel Aviv has grown ever more bold and barbaric in its efforts to crush the resistance and expand its “undeclared” borders; simply, because it can.
Following a ten-day siege, the Palestinian Authority began, on December 14, a violent raid on the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank.
The PA security forces used similar tactics as used by the Israeli occupation forces in their routine attacks on the area.
The camp, which is a mere half a square kilometer in size, hosts an ever-growing population of 24 thousand refugees, mostly the descendants of Palestinians ethnically cleansed by Zionist militias during the great catastrophe, or Nakba, of 1948.
The raid began with a tight siege, followed by an attack from multiple directions that resulted in the killing of an unarmed youth, Rebhi al-Shalabi, 19, then a 13-year-old child, Muhammad al-Amer.
A group of Palestinian Americans is suing the U.S. government for failing to evacuate American citizens and legal residents stranded in Gaza amid Israel’s genocide, saying that the U.S. is violating constitutional protections afforded to all Americans by discriminating against Palestinians and leaving them stranded.
The group of nine Palestinian Americans, either themselves stuck in Gaza or whose family are stranded there, accuse the government of violating the Fifth Amendment, promising equal protection, “by depriving Plaintiffs of the normal and typical evacuation efforts the federal government extends to Americans who are not Palestinians,” the lawsuit says.
Over the past 14 months, I have watched in horror as fellow Palestinians in Gaza have been subjected to Israel’s relentless bombardment — targeting refugee camps, residential neighborhoods, schools, hospitals, universities and bakeries — and forced to live the nightmare of homelessness in leaky tents without food, water or medical care. I have listened to friends and family in the West Bank and…
In the bustling streets of Cairo, a bold banner hangs outside the Writers’ Syndicate, confronting passersby with a piercing statement: “Every pound you spend on their products returns as a bullet in your brother’s back.” This message critiques the economic and political ties between the listed multinational products and Israel. The visual captures the spirit of a region-wide movement, where ordinary people are transforming everyday choices into acts of defiance against forces that fuel war and perpetuate conflict.
Israeli forces have encircled and attacked three barely functioning hospitals in northern Gaza with growing intensity over the past week, endangering the lives of patients receiving treatment inside the facilities — including premature babies — and medical workers. Dr. Husam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, said in a video statement over the weekend that the Israeli military…
Christmas celebrations are canceled in the West Bank and the city of Bethlehem, Jesus Christ’s birthplace, for the second year in a row in response to Israel’s genocidal attack on Gaza and ethnic cleansing of the Occupied Palestinian Territories. We feature an excerpt of the Christmas sermon of Reverend Munther Isaac of the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem, titled “Christ Is…
After years of intense opposition that left one protester riddled by police bullets, Atlanta’s so-called Cop City is set to begin operations in the next few weeks. The city’s police chief hosted a tour of the campus last week and training programs are expected to start during the first quarter of 2025.
The Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, as it is officially known, is an 85-acre campus with a price tag of at least $110 million and another $1.7 million recently approved by Atlanta’s City Council for its security.
Most infamously, it includes a mock city, for which the site gained its Cop City nickname, for “real-world” training that includes a convenience store, two-story house, apartment and commercial-style building.
Syrian rebel commanders have boasted that the US military helped them overthrow the government of Bashar al-Assad.
They acknowledged this in a report published by major British newspaper The Telegraph, titled “US ‘prepared Syrian rebel group to help topple Bashar al-Assad’”.
The article revealed that a rebel group armed, trained, and funded by the United States, based in the south of Syria, collaborated with rebranded al-Qaeda in the north to jointly topple the Syrian government.
According to the report, the US military helped to create a Syrian militia called the Revolutionary Commando Army (RCA).
Talks for an end to the genocide in Gaza, which Western and Israeli media refer to as a “hostage deal,” have heated up to an unprecedented degree in recent days. The question is, how genuine an opportunity is this?
Over the course of 2024, we have repeatedly heard breathless hints of a deal being almost done, only to have the talks collapse as new demands come in from Israel. The United States government and media then go into overdrive to spin a narrative that Hamas was really the party that scuppered the deal. It has been a clear pattern.
Minneapolis, Minnesota – On Saturday December 21 close to 100 people rallied in downtown Minneapolis to say, “All we want for Christmas is an end to the genocide.” The rally was organized by the Minnesota Peace Action Coalition and took place across the street from the WCCO TV studios, within sight of the Minneapolis Holidazzle Celebration, in the Nicollet Mall district of downtown.
Fourteen months into Israel’s genocide in Palestine the death toll has reached over 45,000 people, and attacks on civilians, their homes and refugee camps continue to be a daily occurrence.
Why must we tell our government that murdering children and conducting a genocide is wrong, against the law and a crime against humanity? Our Resistance Solidarity included
Veterans For Peace, Up-State Drone Action, Peace Action, Jewish Voice For Peace, Pax Christi NYS, Downtown Berrigan Collective – Ithaca, and Students For Justice in Palestine. Concerned citizens of NYS dug a grave for the children of Gaza at the Federal Building in Syracuse, NY on December 9, 2024. . On December 9, 1948 the UN adopted the Conventions against genocide unanimously.
Palestinians accuse UK firm of breaching human rights laws by piping oil allegedly used by Israeli army
Palestinian victims of the war in Gaza are taking legal action against BP for running a pipeline that supplies much of Israel’s crude oil.
The claimants have sent the British oil company a letter before claim, alleging it is breaching its stated commitments to human rights under international law.
On November 7th, we published an op-ed titled “Daniela Rus, The People Demand: No More Research for Genocide” in the MIT Tech. Our piece detailed how Prof. Daniela Rus, director of MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, uses Israeli Ministry of Defense money to develop algorithms with applications in “multirobot security defense and surveillance.” Rather than engage with these publicly verifiable facts, the Tech’s editorial board (under the guidance of Prof. Rus) retracted our op-ed.
MIT sent several of us “no contact” and “no harassment” orders for Prof. Rus, disciplining one student for simply writing our Op-Ed’s title on a public chalkboard!
The fast-paced unfolding of events that took place in Syria shook everyone, including the regime change and color revolution enthusiasts who hoped to destroy Syria only to deliver it on a golden plate to the Zionist entity to annex massive swaths of lands. The forceful overthrow of the government in Syria represents a colossal defeat to the Pan-Arabists in the region and those who center the Palestinian national liberation cause. This is not a rhetorical exaggeration; the demise of Syria will have direct consequences on the Axis of Resistance — given that the land bridge (Iran-Iraq-Syria-Lebanon) has been undermined — and the interconnected struggle against imperialist zionism.
Last month, immediately following the U.S. elections, Benjamin Netanyahu made a new appointment to the role of Israel’s ambassador to the U.S.: Yechiel Leiter. The move was not required, Michael Herzog’s term, the current ambassador, was not over for another year. The move was clearly made to dovetail with President-elect Trump entering office. The name Yechiel Leiter is not very…
Winter at our home in Gaza was always a season of love, warmth and the irresistible aroma of delicious food. Following my grandmother’s timeless advice — “If the cold comes, prepare your fresh olive oil and wood” — our preparations for the season brought us closer together. Winter meant family gatherings and cozy holidays, especially on stormy days when strong winds and heavy rains prompted school…
In a case of tragic coincidence, the place most closely associated with the uplifting story of Jesus Christ, Christmas and the teachings of the Bible is now being subject to some of the most sustained and severe death and destruction that modern society has seen. Rev. Munther Isaac, the pastor at the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem and the Lutheran Church in Beit Sahour, joins host Chris Hedges on this special episode of The Chris Hedges Report to revisit the story of Christmas and how it relates to Palestine then and now.
The Palestine Mental Health Networks and Doctors Against Genocide stand with Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, in pleading with the international community: Do not remain silent as Gaza’s healthcare system is systematically destroyed. The relentless assaults on Kamal Adwan Hospital—a sanctuary meant to save lives in northern Gaza—are part of a deliberate genocidal campaign. These attacks on hospitals and clinics, places meant for healing and shelter, are not accidents of war; they are the cold calculations of those who would see an entire people erased.
The situation in Syria has generated more questions than answers. Some ten days after the seizure of power by the terrorists, there are still no clear ideas as to what will happen. Three powers are occupying parts of Syria: the United States, Israel and Türkiye. The new government has made not the slightest move to prevent this occupation.
Today the new regime is complicit in the partition of its country, the destruction of its sovereignty and the disappearance of the Syrian state.
Undoubtedly in the tactical sense, Israel, Türkiye and the United States are winners following the collapse of the regime of Bashir al-Assad.
In November, over a year into Israel’s genocide in Gaza, a report by the Gaza-based Community Training Center for Crisis Management produced a grim statistic: “Nearly all children in the embattled Palestinian enclave believe their death is imminent — and nearly half of them want to die.” It is no wonder why the statistic, which came from a survey of families with disabled…
Two Palestine Action activists have been acquitted of conspiracy to commit criminal damage charges in a trial at Leicester Crown Court for an action against a Leicester drone factory complicit in Israel’s Genocide in Gaza. The trial commenced on 2 December, concluding yesterday.
Palestine Action: not guilty
The activists were arrested less than a month into the Genocide, on 18 October 2023, after a dynamic action which shut down the UAV Tactical Systems factory operated by Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest weapons company The action took place less than 12 hours after at least 500 wounded, starving, and displaced Palestinians were massacred at Gaza’s Al-Ahli Arabi Baptist Hospital in a targeted missile strike.
A van was driven through the barriers of the factory, positioned so the gates could not be closed. The activists then took to the roof of the vehicle, lighting flares, and unfurling banners and Palestinian flags. The factory entrance was covered in blood-red paint, while the activists shouted,/ the war criminals are in that factory. Elbit Systems is guilty of war crimes. And exclaiming “Sunak is the real criminal”.
During the action, the main gate was damaged and security hub, as well as a number of Elbit and security vehicles. While the factory was shut down, one of the Actionists said:
We need to be as determined as the Palestinian people, who never stop digging through the rubble to find survivors…Thousands of people are dying, what else are we supposed to do? We have to act now.
Her comrade said:
Israel has stolen 1,700 children’s lives in the last 7 days. If you condemn the Holocaust, where are you now? ‘Ethnic cleansing’ is too clean of a word for what Israel is doing.
Shutting down Israel’s weapons supply chain again
Owned jointly by Elbit Systems, Israel’s biggest weapons manufacturer, and French arms company, Thales, the UAV Tactical Systems plant exports ‘ML10’-category arms, meaning military drones, to Israel – of the type used to decimate Gaza. In total £5 Million of yearly exports are sent from the plant to the Israeli military. Elbit supplies 85% of Israel’s drone fleet, and 85% of its land-based military equipment.
Both defendants gave powerful evidence in their defence, arguing that they acted to prevent Elbit’s crimes, and save lives in Palestine. The Jury, on Friday, acquitted the activists of Conspiracy to Cause Criminal Damage.
This resounding victory follows on from another Jury decision in Leicester, in May 2024, when two other Palestine Action activists were also found Not Guilty of Criminal Damage charges, following a four-day occupation of the roof of the same factory, UAV Tactical Systems, in May 2021.
A spokesperson for Palestine Action said:
The actionists who shut down Israel’s drone plant in Leicester did so because it is the morally necessary thing to do.
Their jury agreed – that is why the government is launching attacks on trial-by-jury, because the people cannot abide complicity in Israel’s crimes.
On Wednesday, the Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz published an investigative report based on testimonies of Israeli army members under the condition of anonymity, describing various acts of intentional killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
According to the testimonies gathered by Haaretz, soldiers, and officers of the Israeli army’s 252nd brigade described a line north of the Netzarim corridor, the depopulated military area created by Israel cutting the Gaza strip in half south of Gaza City. According to testimonies, this line is known as “the dead bodies line”, which Gaza people “know very well.”
Washington, DC – On Wednesday, 17-year veteran and intelligence officer Josephine Guilbeau disrupted the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs to call out the billions of dollars Congress sends to fund genocide in Gaza while neglecting veterans at home. Here is what she had to say:
“US Congress is complicit in the genocide in Gaza! You keep sending billions of dollars to Israel meanwhile veterans are homeless and committing suicide with more budget cuts on the way. As a 17-year veteran and intelligence officer, I am watching you destroy American values and jeopardize our national security.
