Animals endure prolonged and terrifying deaths when farms kill them via ventilation shutdown (VSD)—a process in which workers shut off all airflow to the sheds in which the animals are kept, slowly suffocating them. VSD Plus involves adding carbon dioxide to the air, which deprives the animals of oxygen, and raising the temperature to as high as 120 degrees, which essentially bakes them alive.
The excruciating process can take hours, and animals often writhe, gasp, and desperately thrust themselves against the walls in an attempt to escape before eventually succumbing to heatstroke and suffocation. A U.K. study revealed that a botched VSD killing left some pigs suffering for more than 16 hours. Still, the AVMA enables this vile practice by listing VSD Plus as “permitted in constrained circumstances.”
Water-Based Foam
On misleadingly labeled “cage-free” farms—where birds are often crammed so tightly into filthy sheds that they can barely move—firefighting foam is often used for mass slaughter. The water-based foam is sprayed on the animals, essentially smothering them.
The birds endure stress and agony as they slowly suffocate—sometimes for up to 14 minutes—and those who are still alive after 15 minutes may be choked, beaten, or stomped to death.
“The use of firefighting foam to suffocate animals and ventilation shutdown, in which animals are killed with extremely high heat and steam, are still permitted in the US, despite being effectively banned in the EU and labelled “inhumane”.” https://t.co/cyHUky64yD
A common method for mass killing on egg farms is by gassing birds to death with carbon dioxide, which is often done by filling their sheds with gas or by trapping the birds under plastic tarps and pumping carbon dioxide into the sealed area. The gas deprives the animals of oxygen as they shake and gasp for air.
Other Methods
The AVMA also permits decapitating birds and electrocuting cows. Pigs may be administered a lethal dose of sodium nitrite, which causes them to double over and vomit profusely before dying—which can take hours.
Tell the AVMA to Act Now!
Chickens, pigs, cows, and others don’t want to be killed, and the least the AVMA can do is ensure that they suffer as little as possible when farms slaughter them en masse for “disease control.” Tell the AVMA that VSD is never acceptable:
Consulate General of Pakistan organized the exhibition of renowned Pakistani Artist Riaz Rafi in New York, where members of Pakistani-Americans admired the work of Karachi artist Riaz Rafi. The ceremony began with the recitation of the verses from the Holy Quran.
Ayesha Ali, Pakistan’s Consul General in New York, praised Riaz Rafi’s work. She said that it was a matter of pride to hold such events, to bring a positive image of Pakistan to the world.
Artist Riaz Rafi termed such events as a vital means of introducing Pakistani artists to the world. He further said that art is the language of any artist through which they speak, and such events should be held frequently to promote a softer image of Pakistan.
The Pakistani community members participated in the exhibition, admired his work, and took pictures with him.

Its menu features many classic Cuban dishes made without ingredients that harm animals—that means jackfruit pulled “pork” and Cuban torrejas (French toast) made without chicken’s eggs. This indulgent breakfast item is served with fresh berries and topped with powdered sugar.
Chef Evanice Holz created this vegan Cuban catering company by adapting her family’s heritage recipes with animals in mind. Señoreata serves the Los Angeles and High Desert communities, with weekly food pickups available in Silver Lake and Yucca Valley and a Sunday pop-up location at Smorgasburg in Los Angeles. Its Guava Cheese Pastelitos are a popular offering—a delicious, flaky pastry filled with guava and vegan cheese.

According to Associated Press (AP), Andy Warhol’s “Shot Sage Blue Marilyn” sold for a cool $195 million on Monday, making the iconic portrait of Marilyn Monroe the most expensive work by a U.S. artist ever sold at auction.
The 1964 silkscreen image shows Monroe in vibrant close-up, hair yellow, eye shadow blue, and lips red, on a rich blue background. It’s also the most expensive piece from the 20th century ever auctioned, according to Christie’s auction house in New York, where the sale took place.

The Warhol sale unseated the previous record holder and another modern master, Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose 1982 painting “Untitled” of a skull-like face sold for a record $110.5 million at Sotheby’s in 2017.
Christie’s said an unnamed buyer made the purchase Monday night. When the auction was announced earlier this year, they estimated it could go for as much as $200 million.
“It’s an amazing price,” said Alex Rotter, chairman of Christie’s 20th and 21st-century art department. “Let it sink in, it’s quite something.”
“This is where we wanted to be, clearly,” said Guillaume Cerutti, CEO of Christie’s. “It proves we are in a very resilient art market.”
The proceeds of the sale will go to the Thomas and Doris Ammann Foundation Zurich, which put the painting up for auction. The foundation aims to help children with health care and educational programs.
Warhol created more than one image of Monroe; this particular painting has been exhibited in museums around the world.

Would you feed your dog or cat meat that’s been grown in a laboratory? Some future-forward companies are looking for ways to reinvent meat without animal agriculture, and two in particular are bringing this technology to the world of animal companion food. Here’s how PETA Business Friends Wild Earth and Because, Animals are developing cultivated meat for use in dog and cat food, creating higher-quality food that’s better for animals and the planet.
What Is Cultivated Meat?
Cultivated meat, also known as cultured or clean meat, is real animal flesh produced without breeding and killing billions of animals. While it’s still a developing science, several companies have successfully reproduced meat in the laboratory simply by taking a cell sample from a living animal and growing it.
Why Choose Cultivated Meat for Dog and Cat Food?
The cows, chickens, pigs, sheep, and other animals used for most companion animal food endure horrible conditions on today’s factory farms. Most of these animals don’t have the chance to feel the warmth of the sun on their backs or breathe fresh air. Often, the animals used for dog and cat food fall into one or more of the “four D” categories: dead, dying, diseased, or disabled.
Foods for companion animals are often composed of the ground-up parts of animals that the U.S. Department of Agriculture deems unfit for human consumption, some of which contain hormones, pesticides, or antibiotics. Evidence has even emerged that euthanized dogs and other animals have been sent to rendering plants to be mixed into the meat meal, leading to the presence of the euthanasia drug pentobarbital in the food.
The animal agriculture industry is also one of the world’s worst polluters, dumping massive amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, poisoning our waterways, and contributing to deforestation and land degradation. According to a study by Oxford University scientists, cell-based meat could “potentially be produced with up to 96% lower greenhouse gas emissions, 45% less energy, 99% lower land use, and 96% lower water use than conventional meat.” This, combined with no animal suffering, is why cell-based meat represents the future.
Biotech startup Wild Earth first gained popularity after it won a $550,000 investment from Mark Cuban on Shark Tank. It makes healthy, tasty vegan dog treats and food using lab-grown koji, a protein-rich, fungus-based superfood with 10 amino acids essential to dogs’ health. After successfully launching, the company has begun working on cell-based meat and plans to release a new line of food made with cultured beef, chicken, and seafood.
Some dog and cat food brands perform cruel tests on animals, but Wild Earth showed that companies can test their products without force-feeding any animals caged in laboratories. It worked with PETA to test its products with the help of volunteer guardians and animals living in homes, which revealed the flavors that animals enjoy the most. Other leading dog and cat food manufacturers are also shunning animal tests.
This brand sells dog treats and supplements to add to your dog or cat’s food for a nutrition boost. It’s also developing a sustainable cultured meat from a small amount of animal cells that are then grown in a laboratory setting with a combination of proteins, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. Because, Animals also plans to produce cultured food for cats, who have more stringent nutritional requirements than those of dogs. The Harmless Hunt treats for cats are made with cultured mouse meat—without harming any mice in the process.

According to IG News, a chalk or crayon image of a bald man with a large nose peeking through a wall with the caption “Kilroy was here” is actually the world’s first viral meme.
Although the meme was not started by American soldiers in World War II, it was definitely associated with them. The meme remained popular for some time after the end of the war.
This little drawing became a public joke. Citizens competed to make the meme, even on the American Statue of Liberty torch, the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, the Marco Polo Bridge in China, the George Washington Bridge in New York, and on the bellies of pregnant women in hospitals.
The name is thought to be derived from JJ Kilroy, a welding inspector at Bethlehem Steel Shipbuilding Company in Massachusetts, USA.
According to the New York Times, Kilroy’s co-workers were annoyed with him for not inspecting his work, so Kilroy was annoyed to write Kilroy was here on ship parts and instead of marking it as usual. And on top of that he started making a bald man with a long nose because Kilroy himself was bald and had a long nose. When these ships went to ports around the world, the warriors would find this drawing when they opened the sealed compartments.
According to Associated Press, a particularly prized copy of the first-ever Marvel comic book fetched more than $2.4 million in an online auction, said the auctioneer.
Known as the Marvel Comics #1 “pay copy,” it’s arguably one of the top three comic books in the world of comics collecting, said Vincent Zurzolo, chief operating officer of ComicConnect.
The New York-based auctioneer sold the book Thursday night for a bit under $2,427,800. The buyer’s name has not been disclosed.
He is an extremely passionate comic book collector and investor who also collect other items, Zurzolo said.
Published in 1939, Marvel Comics #1 introduced characters including Sub-Mariner and the original Human Torch, a precursor of the character of the same name that was later a member of Marvel’s Fantastic Four.
The book launched what became the Marvel universe of comics, movies, TV shows and video games. The very well-preserved “pay copy” is especially sought-after because it bears the publisher’s handwritten notes recording how much the multiple writers and artists were paid.
“It’s an incredibly important look into the world and behind the scenes of the creation” of a comics powerhouse, Zurzolo said.
The Marvel universe would eventually include such characters as Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, X-Men, the Avengers, Iron Man, Daredevil and the Hulk, often known on-screen as the Incredible Hulk.
“Without this comic book being made, who knows? Maybe none of that happens,” Zurzolo said. “Maybe the name ‘Marvel Comics’ resonated so much with people, in some way, that that’s what helped to birth all these other things.”
Tiktok app is gaining popularity day by day and now social media giant Facebook has just launched on Tiktok, following in the footsteps of Instagram.
In other words, Meta’s companies are really making a home for themselves on a competitor platform.
Tiktok’s Facebook account is verified and has been followed by more than 23,000 people so far, while no post has been made on it.
Their bio simply reads, “We believe people can do more together, than alone,” accompanied by a link to the Facebook app on the Google Play store.
Meta has confirmed that this Tiktok account is real. The spokesperson said that the brands would reach out to the people who use their products and services through various channels.
Earlier, like Facebook, Instagram also created an account on Tiktok where tips on promoting and using reels are being shared.
However, the presence of Facebook on Tiktok is surprising because the company often considers this app with short videos as its main competitor.
Robo Calls and ad calls abound in the US and Europe. Every month Americans are bombarded by billions of anonymous robo calls, some in violation of federal laws that forbid contacting individuals who have registered their phone numbers in the National Do Not Call Registry.
Fed up with them, an American man has tracked down all the establishments, sued call centers and has now won $75,000 in damages.
Dan Graham, an Austin resident, was also annoyed by the anonymous calls usually made for advertising and services and decided to leverage this distinction to fight back in court against illicit robocallers to the tune of thousands of dollars, according to a report from KXAN’s Arezow Doost.

Dan Graham, a financial accountant entered his number in the US database “Donut Call Registry”. But the companies complained that despite this, they made a lot of phone calls to Dan and in one day they started receiving ten calls and in one day they received 25 calls.
“I probably get, in any given day, 10 [calls] on average,” Graham told Doost. “I counted one day…I got 24 that day.”
Hoping to cut down on the noise, Graham listed his number on the National Do Not Call Registry.
When the calls persisted, he contacted the Better Business Bureau and Federal Trade Commission and filed complaints. Advertising of contact numbers on donut call log numbers is prohibited by US law. By law, written permission is required before making phone calls to these numbers.

As a result, Graham has filed 50 lawsuits in small business court seeking redress over illegal robo-dialing. At first he failed, but eventually, he began to win decisions that resulted in thousands of dollars in penalties for the offending companies. So far, he has won 75,000.
He also advises other people concerned about anonymous phone calls to take legal action against these companies.

According to The News on japan, East Japan Railway has unveiled the country’s first hydrogen-powered train. The train has a top speed of about 100 kilometers per hour.
The firm hopes to replace its diesel models with the new design, which emits no CO2. JR East developed the train with Toyota Motor and Hitachi.

When hydrogen in the rooftop tanks reacts with oxygen in the air, it produces electricity.
“Trains powered only by batteries have short ranges, so we looked at using hydrogen, which is already commercialized for automobiles,” said Shoichi Oizumi of the JR East group’s Research and Development Center.
Hydrogen-powered passenger cars and buses are already running in Japan, but the law doesn’t allow trains to use the fuel.
JR East had to apply for an exemption for its new prototype. The rail firm plans to conduct test-runs from next month and have the train running commercially in 2030.
According to Associated Press, after a year-long jam, a mammoth Israeli strawberry is entering the record books.
Weighing a whopping 289 grams (10.19 ounces, more than half a pound), the titanic berry this week was declared as the world’s largest by Guinness World Records.

The strawberry was picked on Chahi Ariel’s family farm near the city of Netanya in central Israel in February 2021. But only this week, Guinness confirmed it as the heaviest on record.
“We waited for a year for the results,” Ariel said. “We kept it in the freezer for a year. It’s no longer as pretty as it was.”
The supersized strawberry is a local variety called Ilan that tends to grow to a hefty size. Ariel said the record-setting specimen has shrunk to about half the size it was a year before.
The previous record-holder for the heaviest strawberry was a Japanese fruit grown in 2015 in Fukuoka that tipped the scales at 250 grams (8.8 ounces).

The wait turned out to be fruitful. Ariel said he jumped up and down in his car, laughing and singing when he got the news.
“We are very happy to be in the Guinness World Records,” he said.

A Beijing-based company “Space Transportation” plans on winged rocket that can soar from Beijing to New York in just one hour.
Chinese aerospace firm is developing a “rocket with wings” designed for space tourism as well as point to point travel.
“We are developing a winged rocket for high-speed, point-to-point transportation, which is lower in cost than rockets that carry satellites and faster than traditional aircraft,” the company said in a recent interview with Yicheng Times.
According to a report from Space.com, the space plane would aim to provide rapid transport between two locations on Earth through suborbital travel and be fully reusable.
The company revealed that ground tests are planned by 2023 with a first flight in 2024 and a crewed flight in 2025. Even more ambitiously, a test flight of a global, or orbital, crewed space vehicle is planned by 2030, the company says.

After takeoff, the plane detaches from the wing and flies through suborbital space. The wing lands back safely on Earth while the space plane carried on to its destination.
According to CNN, as Covid-19 forces families across India to downsize or cancel their traditionally large-scale weddings, one couple has found a venue unaffected by restrictions: the Metaverse.
Dinesh Siva Kumar Padmavathi and Janaganandhini Ramaswamy from Tamil Nadu, where wedding gatherings are currently limited to 100 people, have invited 2,000 people to their virtual reception next month. And as self-professed Potter heads, or fans of Harry Potter, the pair have opted for a Hogwarts-themed party that guests can attend via their phones, tablets, or laptops.

“Because of the pandemic, a physical, real kind of reception is not possible with the huge number of people attending,” said Padmavathi, who goes by the name Dinesh SP, on the phone from the southern state’s capital of Chennai. “So, we decided: let’s make it in the Metaverse.”
The groom, a 24-year-old blockchain and cryptocurrency enthusiast, worked with start-up platform TardiVerse to create a castle-like digital space inspired by Hogwarts.

The legal wedding ceremony will still take place physically in front of close friends and relatives in Ramaswamy’s village in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district, about 170 miles from Chennai.
But afterward, the couple will log on to join their reception, which is costing $2,016, approximately 150,000 Indian rupees to design, develop and host. The one-hour event will see the newlyweds virtually address their guests, who will be able to explore the castle and customize their avatars’ appearance and outfits.
As well as being able to invite guests who couldn’t otherwise attend, the couple said the digital celebration has another unique advantage: they can involve Ramaswamy’s late father in the proceedings.
“My father-in-law passed away last April,” Padmavathi said. “So, I’m creating a 3D avatar that looks similar to (him), and he will bless me and my fiancée. That’s something we can only do in the metaverse.”

He received his first dose of Serum Institute of India’s anti-coronavirus vaccine Covishield on January 4, according to a report by news agency PTI.
“An Anganwadi worker administered Covishield vaccine to Munda on January 4 at his house. The next day, the family members were shocked when they saw Munda’s lifeless body not only started to move but he regained his speech too,” PTI quoted Peterwar Community Health Centre in-charge Dr Albela Kerketta as saying.
“We saw his reports. This is a matter of investigation,” Dr. Kerketta said.
Days after getting jabbed, Munda claimed that he could stand on his feet and got back his lost voice.
“Glad to have taken this vaccine. There is movement in my legs since taking the vaccine on January 4,” Dularchand told ANI.
Bokaro’s Civil Surgeon Dr. Jitendra Kumar said a three-member medical team has been constituted to examine the “miraculous recovery”. “This is a surprising incident. We will analyze his medical history,” Civil Surgeon Dr. Kumar said.
After receiving the first dose of Covishield, the anti-COVID vaccine Munda, the sole bread earner of his family, not only stood up and started walking but could also speak, much to the astonishment of his family.
According to Associated Press News, auction house Sotheby’s Dubai has unveiled a diamond that’s literally from out of this world. Sotheby’s calls the 555.55-carat black diamond believed to have come from outer space “The Enigma.”
The black diamond Enigma is currently on an exhibit tour, traveling from Dubai to Los Angeles. The rare gem will be auctioned off in London next month and is expected to be sold for the equivalent of nearly 5 million British pounds, or $6.8 million. The auction house plans to accept cryptocurrency as a possible payment as well.

Sophie Stevens, a jewelry specialist at Sotheby’s Dubai, told The Associated Press that the number five bears importance significance to the diamond, which has 55 facets as well.
“The shape of the diamond is based on the Middle-Eastern palm symbol of the Khamsa, which stands for strength and it stands for protection,” she said. Khamsa in Arabic means five. “So there’s a nice theme of the number five running throughout the diamond,” she added.
Stevens also said the black diamond is likely from outer space.
“With the carbonado diamonds, we believe that they were formed through extraterrestrial origins, with meteorites colliding with the Earth and either forming chemical vapor disposition or indeed coming from the meteorites themselves,” she said.
Black diamonds, also known as carbonado, are extremely rare and are found naturally only in Brazil and Central Africa. The cosmic origin theory is based on their carbon isotopes and high hydrogen content.

He has displayed an image of himself on several huge billboards across Birmingham and advertised a self-created website ‘findmalikawife.com’ to look for a prospective life partner, Birmingham Live reported on Wednesday.
Malik said that he is not against the idea of an arranged marriage but wants to “try and find someone on my own first”. “I just haven’t found the right girl yet. It’s tough out there. I had to get a billboard to get seen!” he said on his website.
Here he has opened up about his likes and dislikes, age and profession, etc. Not only that, Malik has also uploaded a video on YouTube urging people to fill out the form if she is interested.

Dmitry Bergen, a Ukrainian artist, has created a unique and mystifying type of mask specializing in the creation of this type of mask.
Ukrainian artist creates these masks using machine elements. The user of the mask apparently transforms from a human to a hybrid of man and machine.

Wearing this mask makes a person look more like a machine, although this dazzling creation of theirs is not technically a steampunk or steam-powered mask as it does not contain moving components.

However, it is clear that this creation based on the legendary scientific literature can play an important role in creating a movement in this regard.

This talented artist started his work with a lightweight flimsy plastic mask, which is easy to shape, after which he turned it into a wearable mask by adding all kinds of decorative elements to it. The items he has used for this purpose include motorcycle parts, faulty camera lenses, and components for children’s metal toys. He uses almost all materials of a machine that can be deconstructed or can be reused.
