More than one in three adults in the U.S. has high blood pressure or hypertension. This can be dangerous because high blood pressure can lead to life-threatening conditions like a heart attack or stroke.
Early diagnosis, a healthy lifestyle, and adopting a few positive habits instead of ignoring them can keep high blood pressure from seriously damaging your health.

Blood pressure is the force of your blood pushing against the walls of your arteries. Anyone can develop high blood pressure, but age, race or ethnicity, weight, gender, and family history are certain factors that can increase your risk.
If you’ve been diagnosed with high blood pressure, you might be worried about taking medication to bring your numbers down. If you successfully control your blood pressure with a healthy lifestyle, you might avoid, delay or reduce the need for medication.
Eat a healthy diet: To help manage your blood pressure, one should limit the amount of sodium, and increase the amount of potassium in the diet. Eating a diet that is rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products and skimps on saturated fat and cholesterol can lower your blood pressure by up to 11 mm Hg if you have high blood pressure.

Lose extra pounds: Being overweight or having obesity increases your risk for high blood pressure. Blood pressure often increases as weight increases. Being overweight also can cause disrupted breathing while you sleep, which further raises your blood pressure. Weight loss is one of the most effective lifestyle changes for controlling blood pressure. In general, you may reduce your blood pressure by about 1 millimeter of mercury (mm Hg) with each kilogram about 2.2 pounds of weight you lose.

Exercise regularly: Exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight and lower your blood pressure. Regular physical activity, such as 150 minutes a week, or about 30 minutes most days of the week, can lower your blood pressure by about 5 to 8 mm Hg if you have high blood pressure.

Limit the amount of alcohol: Alcohol can be both good and bad for your health. By drinking alcohol only in moderation can potentially lower your blood pressure by about 4 mm Hg. Drinking more than moderate amounts of alcohol can actually raise blood pressure by several points. It can also reduce the effectiveness of blood pressure medications.

Quit smoking: Each cigarette you smoke increases your blood pressure for many minutes after you finish and puts you at higher risk for heart attack and stroke. Stopping smoking helps your blood pressure return to normal.
The wedding season has given several videos and photos from the weddings taking place all across the globe. Some videos and photos became viral as well, ranging from happy moments to absurd ones. However, one such video has gone viral in recent times. The now-viral video shows the groom being thrashed at his wedding that took place on Friday at a banquet hall in the Sahibabad area of Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad.
In a shocking incident in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, the family members of a bride physically manhandled the groom and his relatives after being forced to pay dowry.
The report said that the bride’s family had already given INR3 lacs along with a diamond ring costing INR1 lacs in dowry. The bride’s family was asked to pay an additional sum of INR10 lacs right at the time of the Nikkah. It was a demand that became impossible for them to fulfill.
The bridegroom’s father threatened to call off the wedding if the demand was not met. The bride’s male relatives tried to reason with them but it was of no use. The situation got out of hand and they began to assault the bridegroom.
The viral video then sees the wedding guests getting physical as well. The bridegroom’s family relatives managed to escape from the scene. The clip also sees a woman protecting the bridegroom from getting hurt while a police officer is seen protecting the man as well. The bride’s family members have claimed that the bridegroom has married multiple times as well.
The tradition of mass weddings is not rare in Pakistan, but one such mass marriage ceremony has become the talk of the town for its uniqueness, where six sisters of a family have tied the knot with six brothers of another household in Punjab’s city of Multan.

According to one of the Pakistan Media House Samaa, both the ménages belong to the same extended family. All the bridegrooms and brides are cousins.

The six daughters of Mohammed Lateef tied the knot with their six cousins in a grand wedding event on Tuesday. One of the bridegrooms, Shafiq, claims it was a “love marriage.”
One of the six brides, Anum, expressed her emotions on her big day saying, “We [six sisters] are happy about getting married on the same day”.
All brides were dressed up in the traditional red and two of them wore the same outfits. The grooms made a Punjabi-style entry to the venue and performed bhangra before entering the hall. The family got emotional when the six sisters departed for their new homes.
Zahoor Baksh, the father of the grooms, was happy and proud on the occasion. “We have always held grand multiple wedding events and accepted whatever came from the family elders,” he said.
Dairy-based cream cheese brands are struggling to meet the demand of holiday shoppers. Luckily, there’s no shortage of brands that offer delectable vegan cream cheese options, which are easy to use for cheesecakes, cream cheese frosting, and holiday dips.
PETA and logic suggest avoiding dairy-based cream cheese anyway, because cows are forced to produce up to 25 gallons of milk (that’s 400 glasses) every day. To do so, each one drinks the equivalent of a bathtub full of water and consumes around 100 pounds of food daily. This is unsustainable—and exploiting and slaughtering gentle beings is unethical.
Cows love getting back massages and have best friends who lower their stress levels. Between consuming dairy and being vegan, the choice is obvious. The real challenge is deciding which vegan cream cheese option you like best!
Store-Bought Vegan Cream Cheese Options
Most of these brands are available at major grocery store chains and can also be ordered online, and a few are regional. After trying any of them, you’ll vow to cut out all dairy-based cream cheese brands like Philadelphia—which is made with the stolen milk of exploited mothers—and you’ll never look back.
DIY is often cost-effective and even allows you to unleash your creative side. Make some bespoke cream cheese by adding cilantro, garlic, chipotle, chives, strawberries, mangoes, or any combination you like. It’s hard to beat a one-of-a-kind cream cheese tailored to your taste!
Bagels are cool, but spreading cream cheese cheer doesn’t have to stop there. Check out these cream-cheesy ideas and recipes to make the most out of your little tub of love:

It’s long been known that consuming fat is linked to a higher risk of suffering a stroke —however, recent research indicates that it’s not the amount of fat but where it comes from that may be the more important factor. A recent study found that consuming fat from animals was linked to a higher risk of strokes, while getting more fat from vegetable sources was linked to a lower risk.
PETA’s been saying it for years: Eating meat is bad for your health. This latest research joins the mountains of evidence against consuming fat from exploited animals, which leading health experts have repeatedly linked to developing heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.
The study, which combined 27 years of data from more than 117,000 health-care professionals, found that participants who ate the most fat from animals were 16% more likely to have strokes than those who ate the least. Eating less fat from animals also appeared to have a positive impact on the risk of strokes.
Strokes are the fifth-leading cause of death in the U.S., and they occur when blood flow is cut off to a part of the brain. The study’s authors recommended consuming vegetable oils, such as olive, corn, or soybean oil, instead of cruelly obtained fats from animals.
Go Vegan for Our Fellow Animals and for Your Health
The meat industry confines, mutilates, and slaughters cows, chickens, pigs, and other animals by the billions each year. These sensitive, social individuals can’t raise their families, root around in the soil, build nests, or do anything else that is natural and important to them on today’s industrialized farms.
So what are you waiting for? Go vegan for our fellow animals and for your health today. Start now by ordering PETA’s free vegan starter kit:
Thousands of Sikh pilgrims from across the globe including India gathered in the Nankana Sahib District of Punjab, to celebrate the 552nd birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak, the founder of their religion. The 10-day celebrations began on Wednesday in Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Baba Guru Dev Ji.
Pakistan is home to some of the most important pilgrimage sites for Sikhs. They include the birthplace of Baba Guru Nanak, who was born in 1469, Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara, and Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hasan Abdal.
To participate in the celebrations, thousands of Sikh yatrees reached Pakistan from India through the Wagah border crossing. The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi issued 3,000 visas to the pilgrims, whereas New Delhi reopened the visa-free Kartarpur crossing.

As ceremonies to mark the 552nd birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji begin today at Darbar Kartarpur Sahib, we welcome thousands of Sikh Yatrees from India, Afghanistan, US, UK, Canada and beyond to Pakistan. May Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s message of peace & harmony prevail.

According to Hindustan Times, the next edge in line to be ruled is the air and humanity has done it already. But vehicles like the Xturismo intend to bring something a little more exciting to the skies above us.
You may have seen flying cars in action in real life, or in videos. But Japan witnessed a flying bike whooshing past them, or hovering mid-air during a demonstration this week.
Japanese company A.L.I. Technologies recently showed off its own take on a flying motorcycle thingy on a racetrack. Which isn’t as exciting as it sounds but it certainly is loud.
During the demonstration, the XTURISMO Limited Edition flying bike was seen floating in the air with a roaring sound in front of the grandstand at the Fuji racing track. It was also seen slowly swirling in the air while drawing a figure of eight.
ALI Technologies has already started to accept bookings for the XTURISMO Limited Edition from October 26. The company will only manufacture 200 units of these flying bikes. The price of the XTURISMO Limited Edition is 77.7 million yen, including tax and insurance premiums.
The weight of the XTURISMO flying bike is about 300 kgs. The flying bike stands 3.7 meters in length, 2.4 meters wide, and 1.5 meters in height. It can only seat a pilot for now.
According to the company, the flying bike has a cruising time ranging between 30 and 40 minutes. While the maximum speed of the hoverbike has not been disclosed by the company as of now, it was seen clocking around 100 kmph during the demonstration.
President and CEO of ALI Technologies, Daisuke Katano said, “We started developing hoverbikes in 2017. It is expected that air mobility will expand in the future, but first of all, it is expected to be used in circuits, mountainous areas, at sea, and in times of disaster. I am happy to introduce it as the first step of the XTURISMO that is being done and as one of the new lifestyles.
The company said that the delivery of the first units of these limited edition flying bikes will start as early as the first half of next year.
According to CNN, the upcoming attraction inspired by offshore oil platforms is being devised in line with the long-term Saudi Vision 2030’s strategy, which aims to reposition Saudi Arabia as a top international tourism destination and diversify its economy. But the country is determined to reposition itself as an alluring global hotspot that can compete with the likes of nearby Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Oman. It aims to attract 100 million tourists each year by the close of the decade.

Saudi Arabia may be trying to reduce its dependency on oil, but that hasn’t stopped the Arabic kingdom from using its petroleum industry as an inspiration for a brand new tourist attraction. The Middle Eastern country has announced plans to convert an oil rig into a 150,000 square meter floating theme park on an oil rig, with rollercoasters, extreme sports, and waterslides across interconnected platforms in its latest extravagant tourism drive.
Digital renderings of the ambitious engineering feat were released this month, showing a large pier for access by cruise ship, a concert venue, gondolas running between the platforms over the sea, and an underwater restaurant.
#PIF announces “THE RIG.” Project. The world’s first tourism destination inspired by offshore oil platforms.
The rig is funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). The colossal project will be comprised of three hotels and 11 restaurants spread over a number of connected platforms, as well as roller coaster rides and adrenaline-rush activities like bungee jumping and skydiving, swimming pools, a Ferris wheel, and white-knuckle rides high above the glittering Persian Gulf.
“This project is a unique tourism attraction, expected to attract tourists from around the world,” said a statement from the PIF. It said it was expected to be particularly popular with visitors from the Arabian Gulf region.
According to the first post, it’s not unusual for parents to select a unique name for their children to make them stand out. And if you thought X Æ A-12 Musk had the most unusual ring to it, think again. An Indonesian boy is breaking the internet after his name was revealed to be ABCDEF GHIJK Zuzu!
Yes, you read it right. The 12-year-old student’s name is indeed the first 11 alphabets of the English language. The Indonesian boy’s unusual name was discovered during a vaccination drive held by the local police in Muara Enim District, Indonesia.
A police officer recorded a video of the boy with the unusual name when he came for immunization and the video has gone viral on the internet.
The boy went to get his COVID-19 vaccine and when he presented his identity card to the health officials in the South Sumatra province, the officials were surprised by the name of the child. Initially, the health authorities at the vaccination drive did not believe the boy when he told his name but they checked the name on his documents and the twelve-year-old also had a name tag sewed to his clothes.
Apparently, the father of the child, Zulfahmi, coined this name as the father loved crossword puzzles. Zuzu is, however, not a family name but an amalgamation of the child’s parents’ names, Zuhro and Zulfahmi.
The boy’s father said that he had prepared his son’s name six years prior to his birth and the idea came to him from a time when he wanted to be a writer. The boy is however called Adef at home.
The boy’s father, Zulfahmi, also decided to give his second and third sons a name based on the same lines and he had thought of keeping the second one’s name as NOPQ RSTUV and the third child’s name as XYZ but the family gave up the idea and picked different names for their children. The boy admitted that initially he was embarrassed by his name and even bullied at school. However, now he is proud of it.

Though, this is not the only unique Indonesian name that went viral this year. Prior to April, a man went viral for naming his newborn son after his office department! Another similar incident happened in 2019 when a child made waves online after he was named Google. In fact, it created so much buzz that the US tech company had sent gifts to the infant after his birth certificate went viral.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio announced to spend $111 million on fixing facades of public housing buildings in order to bring down unsightly sidewalk sheds that have long blighted complexes.
“I think it bothers NYCHA residents when you have those big sidewalk sheds, those big scaffolds that just seem to sit there for a long time and affect the quality of life, they affect the whole feeling of living in a development,” he said during a morning virtual press briefing, calling the structures a persistent issue that has bothered him throughout his tenure.
The eyesores have been left standing for up to five years due to a lack of sufficient resources to mend the buildings’ faces, according to the mayor.
The 400,000 New Yorkers who call NYCHA home are the backbone of our city, and we’re investing $111 million to repair building facades and pull down the sheds that have been eyesores in the community for too long, Mayor de Blasio said.

“We’re putting the resources in, the repairs get made, the sheds come down, the development’s safer, it looks better, it’s better for everyone,” said de Blasio.
Councilwoman Carlina Rivera (D-Lower East Side) said she was grateful for City Hall’s new investments. Meltzer Towers, a public housing complex for seniors, will be among the buildings the funding will be used to fix, the lawmaker noted.
“These sheds are not just a matter of aesthetic improvements,” ” she said. “They are safety issues, and constant reminders of systemic disinvestment in public housing, and they can make buildings look and feel forgotten.”
New York Mayor Bill De Blasio gets his booster shot and asked the eligible New Yorkers to do so. Bill de Blasio got a booster dose of Johnson and Johnson as he got his first two doses of Moderna.
NYC Mayor said in a video that there have been almost 227,000 booster doses given in New York City. So, people have embraced this. And what they’ve found is it’s very easy to get that booster. It’s easy to schedule an appointment; there are obviously a lot of places you can walk in as well. And Now I will lead by example, it’s time for a booster.
It might be time for your vaccine booster shot, NYC! It’ll re-up your protection and keep you safe.
Vaccine boosters are intended to help people boost their immunity from the initial vaccination series.
It might be time for your vaccine booster shot, NYC! It’ll re-up your protection and keep you safe, NYC Mayor Office tweeted.
People who received their two doses of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at least six months ago, and are at the age of 65 or above and people who are between 18 to 65 either have an underlying medical condition or a higher risk of COVID-19 exposure due to their job, for example, health care workers or a homeless or living in a nursing home or other long-term care facility are eligible for Covid 19 boosters.
People who received two shots of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine should try to get the same vaccine as their booster, but they have the choice to receive any of the three types of vaccine authorized in the U.S. Anyone 18 or older who received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least two months ago can now get a booster shot of any of the three vaccines authorized in the U.S.
Limited data show that a Moderna or Pfizer booster could result in higher antibody levels.
According to BBC News, a selection of eleven Pablo Picasso artworks that have been on display at a Las Vegas hotel for more than two decades has sold at auction for nearly $110 million. The auction took place two days before the 140th birthday of the Spanish artist on 25 October. The auction featured nine paintings and two ceramic pieces by the Spanish artist, who died in 1973.

The collection was started more than 20 years ago by the American casino mogul Steve Wynn, the former owner of the Bellagio Hotel. The sale was part of an effort by the hotel to add more works by women, minority artists, and those from emerging countries to the collection. The works, which were owned by MGM Resorts, featured in the Picasso Restaurant at the Bellagio Hotel. The company said Saturday’s auction would help it improve the diversity of its fine art collection.

“As we continue our recovery for all of us, city workers have been a daily inspiration. Now is the time for them to show their city the path out of this pandemic once and for all.” New York Mayor Bill de Blasio asked the New York workforce to get vaccinated in the first place.
“There is no greater privilege than serving the people of New York City, and that privilege comes with a responsibility to keep yourself and your community safe,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “We have led the way against COVID-19 from fighting for the right to vaccinate frontline workers, to providing nation-leading incentives, to creating the Key to NYC mandate”.
This benefit will end at 5 pm on Friday, October 29th, by which point City employees are required to have proof of at least one dose. Unvaccinated employees will be placed on unpaid leave until they show proof of vaccination to their superiors.
Health Commissioner Dr. Dave Chokshi signed a Commissioner’s Order to formalize the mandate, which will immediately apply to approximately 160,500 City workers. About seventy-one percent of the workers have already received at least one vaccine dose.

According to CNN, a 2,700-year-old toilet has been found during archaeological excavations of a former royal mansion in Jerusalem.
Dating from the end of the 7th century BCE, the private toilet cubicle was unearthed in the remains of the building, which overlooks the City of David archaeological site and the Temple Mount, according to a press release from the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), published Wednesday.
The royal estate operated at the end of the Kings of Judah period, according to the IAA, before Israel was crushed by the Assyrians.
Hewn from stone, the bathroom is a rectangular cabin with a carved toilet that stood over a deep septic tank. “The toilet, made of limestone, is designed for comfortable sitting, with a hole in the center,” the IAA wrote.
Yaakov Billig, director of the excavation for the IAA, said private toilet cubicles were very rare in antiquity, and only a few have been found.
“In fact, only the rich could afford toilets,” Billig said in the press release. “A thousand years later, the Mishnah and the Talmud raised various criteria that defined a rich person, and Rabbi Yossi suggested that to be rich is ‘to have the toilet next to his table,’” he added.
The septic tank beneath the toilet contained a large amount of pottery and animal bones, according to the IAA, which were collected along with the soil fill.
At the wider excavation site, archaeologists discovered stone capitals in a style typical of the period, and small columns that were used as railings for windows.
The team also found evidence that there was a garden near the toilet, with ornamental trees, fruit trees, and aquatic plants, adding to the impression that an extensive palace stood on the site, according to the press release.
Israel has long been a rich source of archaeological finds. In April, a well-preserved 1,600-year-old mosaic was unearthed by archaeologists working in the Israeli city of Yavne.
An international pharmaceutical company Merck has developed a capsule to protect against the coronavirus and its associated disease, Covid 19, which can reduce the severity of the disease and reduce hospital admissions and mortality rates.
In Phase Two Clinical Trial, the capsule was successfully tested in 775 volunteers from the US and other countries who were infected with the coronavirus. All volunteers were given the capsule twice a day, for five consecutive days. None of the volunteers who used it reached the hospital or died of the coronavirus.
Merck says it has the first antiviral pill found to be effective against Covid. The capsule is also effective against the delta variant of the coronavirus, which is currently the leading cause of the Covid 19 global epidemic, according to a Merck & Co. press release.
Merck has also asked the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to approve the capsule on an emergency basis.
According to NBC News, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday issued its strongest guidance to urging pregnant women to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
According to the CDC, the lack of vaccination has led to more than 125,000 cases, 22,000 hospitalizations, and 161 deaths among pregnant women with COVID-19. Twenty-two of those deaths came in August alone, the highest number on record for a single month. Yet, less than a third of pregnant women have been vaccinated, the agency reported.

Data from hospitals across the country show that roughly 97% of pregnant women who were hospitalized with a confirmed case of COVID-19 were unvaccinated. Along with the risks of severe illness and death for pregnant and recently pregnant women, the virus also puts babies at increased risk of preterm birth and admission to the ICU, according to the CDC.
The CDC strongly recommends the shot for women who are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or who may want children in the future.
It’s well proven that people with underlying health conditions and pregnancy are at high risk for Covid complications. One of the main complications of Covid during pregnancy is preterm birth, which puts a newborn at risk, as well. In general, premature babies are more likely to have compromised respiratory function because of their underdeveloped lungs. But if a premature baby with underdeveloped lungs ends up with Covid, that newborn is at risk for additional breathing issues.
“I strongly encourage those who are pregnant or considering pregnancy to talk with their health care provider about the protective benefits of the Covid-19 vaccine to keep their babies and themselves safe,” said CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky in a statement.
Doctors say that communicating the risks of Covid to pregnant women is neither easy nor straightforward. Many such women loathe getting the shots, sometimes falling prey to misinformation about the vaccines’ safety and effectiveness.
The CDC, which announced there was enough data to deem the vaccine safe for pregnant women last month, issued the alert to accelerate vaccinations to protect higher-risk pregnant women and their unborn children.
