It’s not always convenient to physically type out messages. In fact, it can often be slower if you’re trying to tell someone a lot of information very quickly which is why voice messages are now so popular. But not everyone likes receiving voice messages because it’s not always convenient to listen to them.

That’s why WhatsApp has now added a speech-to-text feature that will turn your spoken words into a text message.

Whatsapp has introduced a way to send text messages without having to physically type them out. The new feature is called Dictation, and lets you speak messages into your mobile’s microphone then translates them into text.

The Dictation feature was added in the latest WhatsApp update and is available on both iPhone and Android.

WhatsApp users can easily send a bunch of messages without even typing them on the messaging app, all thanks to digital assistants. You just need to ask the virtual assistant to send a WhatsApp and then your work will be done.

First, go into the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and make sure you’ve got the latest version of WhatsApp installed.

    Then follow these steps:

    • Open WhatsApp
    • Open a chat with the contact you want to speak to
    • Open up the chat keyboard, where you’d normally type messages
    • Look for a microphone icon (not the one next to the chat bar): on Android, it’s black and in the top right, and on iPhone, it’s in the very bottom right of the screen.
    • If you want a comma and question mark, simply say “comma” or “question mark” out loud. It’s the same story for adding “full stop”.
    • Once you’ve finished your message, check it over and then hit send.

When you’re speaking into the microphone, remember to talk clearly and enunciate words as turning speech into text is very tricky for apps.

It’s also best to dictate your message in a quiet place, to give your microphone the best chance of picking up your words. You can always edit your dictated message before you send it anyway, to correct any typos that may appear.

Taking photos and recording videos of almost every fun, important, and random moment has become common in the contemporary world, but not every memory should leave a digital print.

WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature “View Once” photos and videos that disappear from the chat after they’ve been opened, giving users greater control over their privacy. This feature provides users with a chance to share the moment with others and not leave a digital footprint.

“As with all the personal messages you send on WhatsApp, ‘View Once’ media is protected by end-to-end encryption so WhatsApp cannot see them,” the messaging app’s blog said.

“Media will not be saved to the recipient’s Photos or Gallery. Once you send a view once a photo or video, you won’t be able to view it again,” WhatsApp said in a statement.

They will also be clearly marked with a new “one-time” icon. After the media has been viewed, the message will appear as “opened” to avoid any confusion about what was happening in the chat at the time. This feature also won’t allow forward, save, star, or share photos or videos that were sent or received with the view once media is enabled.

We’re rolling out the feature to everyone starting this week and are looking forward to feedback on this new way to send private and disappearing media, the messaging app said.

According to BBC, YouTube said on Sunday it had barred Sky News Australia from uploading new content for one week, citing concerns about Covid-19 misinformation.

The move comes after a review of posts uploaded by the Rupert Murdoch-owned TV channel, which has a substantial online presence with 1.85 million YouTube subscribers.

YouTube did not point to specific items but said it opposed material that “could cause real-world harm”. It issued a “strike” under its three-strike policy, the last of which means permanent removal.

“We have clear and established Covid-19 medical misinformation policies to prevent the spread of Covid-19 misinformation that could cause real-world harm,” a YouTube statement said.

Sky News confirmed the temporary ban and the TV channel’s digital editor said the decision was a disturbing attack on the ability to think freely.

The last YouTube upload, from three days ago, features a host claiming that lockdowns have failed and criticizing state authorities for extending Sydney’s current stay-at-home orders.

Youtube has banned several channels over the past two years for spreading misinformation regarding Covid-19.

US scientists discovered that TSPL Protein can reduce weight by eliminating fat through Sweat.

A team of experts at the University of Pennsylvania is conducting research on the treatment of diabetes by studying a protein in the immune system, Thymic Stromal Lymphopoietin (TSLP).

TSLP has been linked to asthma and a variety of allergies, but some recent research has shown that the same protein regulates the body’s energy use, i.e. metabolism.

This led to the idea that this protein may also help in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. To test this hypothesis, Experts began further research. This research proves that TSPL is helpful in controlling blood sugar levels and helps minimize the severity of Type-2 diabetes. This research surprisingly revealed that the same protein also excretes fat from sweat which helps in reducing weight and obesity.

According to the experts, this is the first time that a protein belonging to the immune system has been found to cause fat excretion in sweat.

However, they also point out that there is still a long way to go before TSLP can lead to formal treatment for obesity or diabetes because of the negative effects of high levels of this protein in the body.

Experts are now conducting further research to understand the practical mechanism of TSLP in controlling obesity and diabetes and to move towards a new drug or treatment that is effective as well as minimal side effects.

Note: This research is published online in the research journal “Science”.

Mental and psychological issues are rapidly increasing around the world. Experts say that diseases like Alzheimer’s and Dementia are swiftly rising. In this context, Psychiatrists provide some medical tips which help to energize and maintain mental health.

Anne Kelly, a psychiatrist at Trinity College Dublin, said that after waking up in the morning, spends eighty-five percent of the time in different work to keep active. This activeness can give benefits while increasing memory, keeps blood vessels healthy, and improving the body’s immune system.

Growing age can fade the memory. Exercise not only increases the brain volume but also slows down if it is declining. This has been confirmed by MRI and other medical procedures.

The brain needs blood and it accounts for two to three percent of the body’s weight and uses fifteen percent of the body’s blood supply. Exercise reduces the fat in blood vessels and improves blood circulation. In this way, the brain functions in an orderly manner, and the memory remains strong.

The third benefit is that the body’s natural defense system improves with exercise and thus we can avoid many diseases.

Gardening has profound effects on mental and psychological health. Especially Dementia patients can benefit greatly from what has been called Horticultural therapy. Some studies have shown that positive results begin to appear in just ten weeks.

Two diseases that can cause serious damage to mental health are blood pressure and diabetes. These two affect the blood vessels and hence intensely affect the brain. Therefore, it is important to stay away from these diseases.

  • Sleeping bags are essential for camping, backpacking, or backyard sleepovers—but no matter the activity, be sure to choose a vegan one that isn’t filled with down feathers stolen from birds. Farms from which down is obtained harm the environment in the same ways farms that raise animals for meat do. They generate massive quantities of manure and slaughter waste, use huge amounts of water, contribute to greenhouse-gas emissions, and pollute the water, air, and land. Did you know that all the birds suffering in the down industry are ultimately sent to the slaughterhouse? There, the standard practice is to hang them upside down, stun them, and then slit their throats.Goose sits in green grass

Thankfully, many companies are responding to the growing demand for animal-friendly materials by choosing innovative insulators made from bamboo fiber, flowers, coconut-shell derivatives, milkweed, and recycled plastic bottles, which are better for birds and the environment. They also function more effectively in the outdoors because they dry quickly and continue to insulate even when damp, unlike birds’ down.

Instagram introduces new safety features to keep young users safe from unwanted adults. Through a press release, Instagram owner company Facebook has announced these new safety features.

It’s making new accounts private by default for kids under 16, blocking some adults from interacting with teens on its platform, and restricting how advertisers can target teenagers.

The changes come as the Facebook-owned photo-sharing app is under pressure from lawmakers, regulators, parents and child-safety advocates worried about the impact of social media on kids’ safety, privacy, and mental health.

Karina Newton, Instagram’s head of public policy, told NPR that the changes announced on Tuesday are aimed at creating “age-appropriate experiences” and helping younger users navigate the social network.

Starting this week, when kids under 16 join Instagram, their accounts will be made private automatically, meaning their posts will only be visible to people they allow to follow them. Teens that already have public Instagram accounts will see notifications about the benefits of private accounts and how to switch.

Instagram is also taking steps to prevent what it calls “unwanted contact from adults.” It says adults who, while not breaking Instagram’s rules, have shown “potentially suspicious behavior”, such as if they’ve been blocked or reported by young people, will have limited ability to interact with and follow teens.

“We want to ensure that teens have an extra barrier of protection around them out of an abundance of caution,” Newton said.

Facebook is also changing the rules for advertisers on Instagram as well as its namesake app and its Messenger app. Starting in a few weeks, they will be able to target people under 18 with ads based only on age, gender, and location, but not other information the company tracks, such as users’ interests or habits on its own apps or other apps that share data with the company.

Facebook and Instagram also say they are working on better methods of verifying users’ ages, so they can determine when policies for teens should apply, and do a better job of keeping kids under 13 off the apps.

Many experts believe that the smartphone can be used for useful purposes after the hardware changes. Now the news is circulating that experts from South Korea have successfully experimented with the use of smartphones as thermometers.

The Korean institute of science and technology has developed a government-funded, cost-efficient, and effective thermal imaging sensor that works perfectly up to 100 degrees Celsius. The thermometer can also be added to the phone by attaching it to the smartphone camera.

Temperature sensing sensors are becoming more common in the context of the epidemic. They are commonly used in hospitals, banks, and other institutions.

In this context, many smartphones manufacturers want to add the most accurate thermometer to their phones.

An optoelectronics specialist at the Korean Institute of Science and Technology, Professor Jun Wen Choi, has developed a trustable, low-cost optical sensor that is free from other defects of the past. This sensor does not require any additional systems to cool down. This minor sensor can be easily mounted in a smartphone’s camera.

Sensor made of Vanadium dioxide absorbs Infrared radiations and converts it into electric signals, which in turn reflects heat in numbers. It is so sensitive that it converts heat into an electrical signal three times more accurately than a normal sensor.

Even if the temperature is 100 degrees Celsius, it shows its readings in just three milliseconds. Due to its high speed, it can also be used in automobiles.

Whether it’s a heart attack or a stroke, timely treatment is crucial to preventing a stroke and saving lives. In this regard, an ultrasound sticker has now been developed.

Sheng Zu, a professor at the University of California, San Diego, cut the thin elastic polymer into 12-millimeter-wide and long pieces that emit ultrasound waves. It is currently processed by a computer by attaching a wire to a chest or neck, but the next model could be wireless.

In the initial experiment, ultrasound waves reached five and a half inches deep in the skin. In the second method, many ultrasound waves were thrown at different angles. Therefore the ultrasound of a large part of the body came to light. In this way, the sound waves pass through the blood vessels and reach the blood cells, then return to the sticker through the same path.

Consequently, the sound echoes from different parts of the body hide blood flow, blood pressure, tissue health, and heart conditions. This way the doctor can immediately detect any alarming changes in the heart and its veins.

It has been tested on many patients and has shown excellent results similar to conventional ultrasound. The consequences may differ depending on the performance of the common person, but the patch has no part in this chaos. However, clear instructions for affixing a sticker can yield better results. An innovative sticker can provide immediate awareness of stroke and heart disease.

For diabetics, managing their blood sugar levels typically means pricking their fingers multiple times a day with a lancet and then placing a drop of blood on a testing strip. However, Australian scientists now claim that they have developed pain-free blood sugar testing for diabetics, a non-invasive strip that checks glucose levels via saliva.

However, this latest test works by embedding an enzyme that detects glucose into a transistor that can then transmit the presence of glucose, according to Dr. Paul Dastoor, Professor at the University of Newcastle in Australia, who led the team that created it.

Photo Courtesy: University of Newcastle /Reuters

Doctor Paul and his team ply this research and invented such bio-sensors, which identify the amount of glucose in saliva.

Through this test, more than 46 billion diabetic patients around the world will be free from the painful tests for examining glucose amounts in the body. It is to be noted that saliva has the same amount of glucose as in blood, although the idea of testing saliva for diabetic patients has emerged in recent years.

The project secured A$6.3 million in funding from the Australian government to establish a facility to produce the test kits should clinical trials be passed and will start working from this year and its first-ever consignment will be on the market in 2023.

This year pilgrims had to observe social distancing and wear face masks on Mount Arafat. Only 60,000 Saudi citizens and residents aged 18 to 65, who have been fully vaccinated or recovered from the virus and do not suffer from chronic diseases, were selected for the annual pilgrimage. Thousands of face-masked pilgrims performed the annual Hajj pilgrimage to atone for their sins, expressing hopes for peace and an end to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Researchers have found a way to make sure plastic waste doesn’t linger on our planet for long and actually splits and degrades in just a week when exposed to sunlight and oxygen.

According To the Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), Researchers from Huazhong University of Science and Technology have developed an eco-friendly plastic that decomposes in non-toxic materials, leaving behind zero environmentally damaging traces of plastic.

This adaptable plastic is made up of organic polymers and will remain in its original form until the sunlight contacts. When exposed to sunlight and oxygen, it starts reacting with oxygen present in the air and starts decomposing into harmless material. This whole process is completed within a week. In the process, it also releases a byproduct, naturally occurring succinic acid. However, researchers are of the belief that this can be reused commercially in pharmaceuticals or food.

With its unique molecular structure, this novel plastic won’t really be perfect for soda bottles or shopping bags as it remains stable only in the dark without oxygen.

it can be used in the making of electronics, smartphones, tablets, or desktop computers where it starts to decompose after being considered junk and result in lesser e-waste.

It is to be noted that every year used electronic appliances create tons of electronic waste. According to the United Nations report, the global E-waste monitor 2020, last year 5billion 36 million tons of E-waste has been produced which can’t be destroyed.

Researchers are working on ways to make this plastic usable. However, they state that commercial availability of this is still years away.

The research has been published in the Journal of American Society.

WhatsApp has added a new Archived box on the top of the screen, which could be annoying for a lot of people. Now, you might be wondering why WhatsApp has added it on the top. So the answer to that question is very simple. WhatsApp doesn’t want you to forget that you have archived some chats.

If you are seeing the Archived box on top of the screen, it means that all your archived chats will always remain hidden and you will never see a new message from archived chats. But you can always change that in the settings section after following a few simple steps.

Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your smartphone and tap on the Archived box, which is now located on top of the screen. WhatsApp will then open all your archived chats.

Step 2: Tap on the three-dotted icon. It is on the right of the “Archived” text. Tap again on “Archive settings.”

Step 3: Disable the “Keep Chats Archived” option. After disabling it, the Archived box will disappear from the top of the screen.

Disabling this option would mean that archived individual or group chats won’t stay archived when you receive a new message from that individual or group chat. If you want them to remain archived, then you shouldn’t disable the “Keep Chats Archived” option.

Filled with intimate family stories and photos, Linda McCartney’s Family Kitchen: Over 90 Plant-Based Recipes to Save the Planet and Nourish the Soul is not only a cookbook but also a remembrance of her life.

Linda was an animal rights trailblazer and devoted PETA supporter who never missed an opportunity to promote compassion for all sentient beings. Her legacy lives on through her family and the countless others who have been inspired by her passion for animals, including actor and PETA collaborator Alicia Silverstone. Linda McCartney’s Family Kitchen—filled with recipes that are as good for the soul as they are for animals and the planet—will inspire you to make kinder choices, too.

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the delicious vegan recipes included in the book:

    French Toast

There’s no need to harm chickens and steal their eggs to make this sweet breakfast classic. Chickpea flour is used to thicken the batter that gives this toast its cinnamon-speckled crust, although you can also use all-purpose flour.

From the book: “Quick and easy, French toast was a favourite treat when we were children and we still love it today. Linda used the irresistible flavours of cinnamon, vanilla and maple syrup in her recipe and, when topped with fruit for a burst of juiciness, this makes a really luxurious special breakfast. It’s the perfect way to use up slightly stale bread.”

    Gingerbread Cake

Vegan butter and flaxseeds are used instead of butter and eggs to make this recipe animal-friendly. Have it for breakfast with maple syrup and vegan yogurt, or try it with dairy-free ice cream for dessert.

From the book: “Gingerbread is a much-loved classic bake and this dairy-free version is wonderfully squidgy, sticky and satisfying. This is great just as it is or, when served with some plant-based vanilla ice cream, it makes a delightful dessert.”

    Deep Dish Pie

Linda’s take on the savory British pie is made with vegan meatballs and flaky puff pastry.

From the book: “This is a totally gorgeous pie—bring this to the table and everyone will sigh with delight. And as we use ready-made vegan pastry and burgers or meatballs, it is easy to put together. The pastry is widely available but just check the ingredients label to make sure it is vegan. A bowl of green peas is the perfect accompaniment.”

Regarding the question about myths and misconceptions, Junnarkar said that eating sweets and ice creams can’t be the only reason for diabetes. Along with an unbalanced diet, obesity, unhealthy lifestyle, genetics and stress are the main risk factors for diabetes.

In a query, concerning the symptoms of diabetes and the long-term complications of untreated diabetes, Junnarkar insisted on a yearly physical checkup that can identify diabetes in the initial stages.

If diabetes will remain untreated it has a long-term impact on internal organs. It can impact on eyes, nerves, kidneys, or heart. If it affects organs like the heart or kidney, mostly that can’t be treated or reversed back.

According to the article published in Eureka Alert, Research conducted by Professor Paulo Barbosa de Freitas Júnior at Cruzeiro do Sul University in Sao Paulo, Brazil, can contribute to earlier diagnosis of diabetic neuropathy, a disorder characterized by damage to peripheral nerves, with symptoms such as pain and paresthesia, mainly in the legs and feet.

Freitas and his group tested volunteers to measure the grip force exerted by diabetics with and without a diagnosis of neuropathy, as well as healthy subjects and developed a methodology that can be used to produce equipment for use in clinical practice.

In the study, the group measured the grip force in diabetic patients while they were holding and handling objects. The results were compared with data for healthy subjects and patients with other neurological diseases.

The test results showed that healthy volunteers used between 100% and 120% of the minimum force required to hold an object, whereas the force used by participants with neurological alterations was two and a half times to three times greater. Diabetics exert less force to hold an object than people with other diseases that affect the nervous system.

In the future, the innovation should help physicians diagnose the disorder rapidly and easily not long after the onset of initial symptoms of neuropathy in diabetics.

An article published in the journal Human Movement Science reports the main findings of the study, which was funded by FAPESP via a Regular Research Grant and a scientific initiation scholarship.
