    Web and Social media Desk:

We last saw Mahira Khan on television screens in 2016’s Bin Roye. During her break from TV, she made her Bollywood debut alongside Shah Rukh Khan in the film Raees.

Mahira will star alongside actor Kubra Khan and Usman Mukhtar. The serial is based on Umera Ahmed’s novel and the script has been written by Ahmed herself. The drama is directed by Farooq Rind and produced by Nina Kashif and MD Productions.

Mahira recently took to Instagram to share a promotional poster featuring her character from the upcoming show. Her character Mehreen is bespectacled and looks quite serious, a persona that is quite the departure from how we’ve usually seen Mahira on screen in the past.

While the release date for the drama has yet to be announced, Mahira’s fans are already brimming with excitement on social media.

  • Muqeem Ahmad, London,

Clothing purchases in the UK have risen since the Corona pandemic last year, when it was limited to three lock-downs and stay at homes with Sop’s.

In April, the rate was more than 70% – while the purchase of label items was recorded at 9.2%, which is twice as much as experts expect and the rate is even higher than the previous level of the pandemic situation.

The Bank of England expects an increase in purchases from citizens as savings increase during the lock-down.

According to the central bank, the UK economy could grow 7.2% this year from a deficit of 10% in 2020. However, some retailers and department stores have not been able to bear the impact of the Corona outbreak and have been forced to close. Britain’s famous Debenum store is gone after 240 years.

According to experts, the purchase of clothes will be swift and buyers will be attracted to other areas and necessities of life.

  • Beauty with a vegan purpose—that’s what the newly crowned Miss Universe, Miss Mexico Andrea Meza, showed the world at the 69th annual pageant. As a proud vegan and winner of one of the four major international beauty pageants, Meza has put the spotlight on animal rights on a global stage—and PETA is here for it!

When Meza isn’t claiming international beauty pageant titles, she’s sharing her love for vegan meals with her 1.6 million Instagram followers. (She’s also a software engineer and an activist against gender violence—is there anything she doesn’t do?)

The Mexican sweetheart has advocated for going vegan for animals and the environment. We couldn’t agree more. The cruel meat and dairy industries tear babies away from their mothers; pack animals into crowded, unsanitary sheds; deny them the space they need to stretch and move around; and slaughter them by the billions. In addition, animal agriculture is, by some estimates, responsible for more greenhouse-gas emissions than all the world’s transportation systems combined. So PETA is very pleased that the 69th Miss Universe is calling attention to the benefits of going vegan.

Meza has even encouraged her followers to adopt animals instead of shopping for them. This is wonderful news for cats and dogs everywhere who eagerly await adoption in animal shelters or struggle to survive on the streets because they have nowhere to go. Refusing to buy from breeders is just one of the ways we can help end animal homelessness, and we’re glad Meza is using her large public platform to speak up for companion animals.

    Go Vegan Like Miss Universe!

Don’t wait for the stars to align—be like Meza and go vegan today. You can start by taking the vegan pledge and ordering one of PETA’s free vegan starter kits:

  • Was it the more than a decade of PETA protests and behind-the-scenes letters? Maybe it was our jaw-dropping runway disruptions. Perhaps the COVID-19 outbreaks at mink fur factory farms had something to do with it. Or maybe it was your consumer activism as you spoke up for animals. Likely, it was all of the above that finally persuaded Valentino to go fur-free!

Cheers rang out at PETA’s headquarters yesterday at the news that even the fashion house that sewed mink fur on sneakers is changing with the times.

At this rate, not a single designer will still be selling fur next year—and no wonder, since no kind shopper will buy it.

Valentino joins hundreds of other companies—including Calvin Klein, Coach, Burberry, Gucci, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, and Versace—that have banned fur after hearing from PETA and our supporters about the suffering that goes into every fur coat, collar, and trinket. For decades, PETA and our international affiliates have documented and exposed that foxes, minks, and other animals exploited for fur live on filthy, cramped fur farms before they’re electrocuted, gassed, or beaten to death.

The exciting news also comes after Valentino became the first luxury brand to ban alpaca fleece, in 2020. The brand’s bans will help the planet, too—raising and killing animals for any material is devastating to the environment. According to the Higg Materials Sustainability Index, alpaca fleece as the second-most environmentally damaging material (after silk), and the negative environmental impact from producing a fur coat and trim can reportedly be up to 10 times higher than for making a faux-fur coat.

    Our Work’s Not Done

Animals are still suffering in the fur trade—and they need your help. Please keep the momentum going by calling on Canada Goose to join Valentino and countless others in dropping fur:

  • Batapur BRB, Lahore,

A 60-year-old bodybuilder Abdul Waheed is setting an example for the young people with his impressive physique and fitness.

Just before Ramazan, Ustad Abdul Waheed won the Mr Pakistan title. A few months earlier, he had won the Mr Punjab title as well. He has won a slew of other medals, mostly gold and a few silvers, along with titles such as Mr Lahore. He has his eye on the Mr Asia title now. “I believe the competition is circled in for winter, in Bangalore, India, if my information is correct,” he says. “I want to make a name for my country,” he adds.

Growing up in Batapur along the Bambawali-Ravi-Bedian (BRB) Canal, where he still resides, the young Abdul Waheed was drawn to bodybuilding as a hobby at first. “I started building up my body at 16,” he says. “But at the time, I had no interest in taking part in competitions. I only liked to go to the gym and lift weights. The competitions came later, when my students got after me to enter myself. That was 20 years ago,” he smiles.

His diet includes eggs, fish, oatmeal, chicken, minced meat, fresh and dried fruits and juices. Waheed wants to see the young people active. He has opened a club to train them as well.

  • If you’re looking for a way to make your laundry routine better for the planet, you might be considering dryer balls as one solution. These nifty tools help separate your laundry while it’s in the dryer, speeding up drying time and saving energy. However, wool dryer balls not only harm sheep but also damage the environment. The wool industry is a massive contributor to climate change and pollution, and it exploits sheep. It’s responsible for increased greenhouse-gas emissions, soil erosion, and water contamination.

After talking with PETA about the impact of this destructive industry, the environmental company 8 Billion Trees decided to phase out its wool dryer balls in favor of vegan ones that are better for animals and the planet. You can do the same by choosing compassionate, wool-free options for everyday items like your dryer balls.

Here are just a few selections for wool-free vegan dryer balls:

    Zero Market Dryer Balls

Add a drop or two of your favorite essential oil to these reusable bamboo and hemp dryer balls instead of using dryer sheets.

    Kikkerland Puffer Fish Dryer Buddies

These silicone-based dryer buddies add a little fun to your household chores. They’re durable, so you can use them over and over again for fluffy, fresh laundry.

    Kikkerland Hedgehog Dryer Balls

Choose these spiky hedgehogs for another cute option.

    Kikkerland Cactus Dryer Balls

Or go for these happy cacti.

    ecoegg Dryer Eggs

These dryer eggs are available in two subtle scents, or you can choose a fragrance-free version. Whichever you prefer, these will help dry your laundry faster and leave your clothes softer than ever.

Buddha Bunz Vegan Bamboo Dryer Ball

Since bamboo can grow very quickly and within a relatively small area, it’s a great sustainable option. Plus, no animals are used to grow and harvest bamboo fibers.

    Make Your Own

Grab a pair of old socks and some cruelty-free essential oils for a quick and easy DIY option.

Small changes add up, which is why going vegan has such a huge impact. You can save the lives of countless animals, help reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, and improve your own health by choosing vegan food, cruelty-free cosmetics, and animal-free materials:

This dance is extremely dangerous, but young Saudis do it with great skill

The traditional style of dance with gun fire is performed exclusively on the occasion of Ramadan and Eid. Apart from Saudi citizens, foreigners also enjoy it

  • Take what you need, and leave what you can—that’s the concept behind the growing movement of community fridges popping up in cities across the U.S. Since the COVID-19 pandemic has been increasing the pressure on individuals struggling with food insecurity, communities have turned to mutual aid as an important source of relief. Mutual aid is a form of volunteer-run community organizing that helps provide those in need with goods and assistance. Community fridges are a simple form of this, allowing those with more than they need to redistribute their resources to those who may not be able to buy food. Some organizers are using the fridges as an opportunity to offer healthy vegan food to their community by asking for meat-, egg-, and dairy-free donations.

Here are some vegan community fridges and vegan-friendly mutual aid networks that you can use or support:

Overthrow Community Fridge (New York City)

New York City’s first all-vegan community fridge is located outside the Overthrow Boxing Club. Since it opened in February 2021, the community has kept it stocked with fresh produce, vegan cheese, vegan milk, and other staples. The organizers also set up a wooden pantry next to the fridge for shelf-stable items such as bread, rice, cookies, pasta, and canned goods.

    Community Fridge SATX (San Antonio)

Community Fridge SATX offers fresh produce, nonperishables, canned goods, vegan meats, vegan milk, and personal-care products, all of which are donated by local businesses and individuals.

DaVillage Pop Up Shop (Charlotte, North Carolina)

Founder Shamelle Jackson organized the DaVillage Pop Up Shop in an effort to provide low-income families in her community with healthy food options during the pandemic. One of the DaVillage community fridges is fully vegan and stocked with produce, tofu, prepared vegan meals, and more.

SF/Bay Area Mutual Aid Support (San Francisco)

This Bay Area mutual aid network helps provide the city’s most vulnerable with low-waste vegan care kits. If you live in the area and want to volunteer to prepare some vegan meals, here’s how you can sign up.

ABQ Mutual Aid (Albuquerque, New Mexico)

ABQ Mutual Aid receives food donations from local restaurants, stores, and farmers to redistribute to those in need in the Albuquerque area. Since the start of the pandemic, the group has been putting together weekly food boxes for families, and with the help of Animal Protection of New Mexico, it has made vegan boxes available as part of that service.

Food Not Bombs DTLA (Los Angeles)

The downtown Los Angeles branch of Food Not Bombs is a mutual aid organization that serves weekly vegan meals to the houseless community and redistributes nonfood donations of toiletries, clothing, and other goods.

Food Not Bombs Isla Vista (Isla Vista, California)

Another branch of Food Not Bombs, this Isla Vista, California, group serves healthy vegan meals made with fresh produce that would otherwise go to waste.

How Can I Set Up My Own Vegan Community Fridge?

The tips below can help you start a vegan community fridge in your area. Be sure to ask for vegan donations only—that means no meat, eggs, dairy, honey, or any other animal-derived items or ingredients. Consider placing a bookshelf next to your fridge so that people can leave canned goods, spices, and other nonperishable items that don’t need to be refrigerated.

    Why Vegan Mutual Aid?

The goal of mutual aid organizing is to create a community based on equality and compassion. To achieve that, animals should also be taken into consideration. Additionally, vegan food is often less expensive, healthier, and better for the environment. To learn more about the benefits of going vegan, check out our guide:

  • Do you have your picks circled for the Oscars? What about the Oscats? Every year, PETA celebrates outstanding achievements in animal advocacy through film with our Oscat Awards. Previous winners include Bradley Cooper, Black Panther, Natalie Portman, Tom Hanks, The Lion King, and Charlize Theron in a mix of traditional categories and some that are unique to the Oscats.

So who’s taking home a golden feline this year? Without further ado, here are PETA’s Oscats Award Winners for 2020.

    Best Animated Feature: Wolfwalkers

PETA Awards Wolfwalkers film an Oscat

Co-written and co-directed by vegan filmmaker Tomm Moore, this Irish animated feature follows a family of wolves as they fight to defend their pack against the humans who want to eradicate them and bulldoze their forest home. Wolfwalkers challenges the toxic belief that humans are superior to other species (i.e., speciesism)—something Moore spoke to in an interview: “As an animal rights advocate, I feel the current crisis is largely from a broken and out of kilter attitude we, as a global society, have developed towards animals, and ‘Wolfwalkers’ speaks to that at a certain level.”

    Monkey Scene, Monkey Didn’t: Mank

PETA Awards Mank film an Oscat award

The critics loved Mank, and the Oscats do, too. The capuchin monkeys, giraffes, and elephants used in the film were all rendered using stunning computer-generated imagery (CGI), nabbing a second PETA award for director/producer and husband/wife duo David Fincher and Ceán Chaffin. Their first was an Elly Award, celebrating TV stars and shows that promote kindness to animals, for Mindhunter in 2018. This time, they’ve recreated old Hollywood without the old cruelty!

Best Costume: Pete Davidson’s ‘Hunt Mushrooms, Not Animals’ Shirt (The King of Staten Island)

Kudos to costume designer Sarah Mae Burton and writer/actor Pete Davidson for The King of Staten Island’s nod to animal rights, as Davidson’s character sports a “Hunt Mushrooms, Not Animals” shirt in the film. (And if Davidson wants to put his tattoos to good use before having them removed, we might know of an animal rights organization that does “Ink, Not Mink” ads.)

Best Adapted Screenplay: The One and Only Ivan

The One and Only Ivan film earns PETA Oscat award

Leave it to the one and only Mike White to make a captivating film about wild animals without using a single one. The writer, actor, director, and longtime PETA friend brought the award-winning book The One and Only Ivan to Disney+ fans around the world, letting actors and astoundingly lifelike CGI animals—even the dogs!—bring to life this powerful tale that illustrates why everyone deserves to be free. This is The One and Only Ivan’s second PETA award win. Disney also scored a Free the Animals Award for the film.

Best Bear Who Wasn’t There: The Call of the Wild

The Call of the Wild movie earns Oscat award from PETA

Disney’s The Call of the Wild introduced a new generation to the Jack London classic and to the magic of CGI, thanks to convincing digital animals, including a bear and a dog. Real bears used in movies and TV are torn away from their mothers as babies and forced to endure lives of exploitation, so we’re absolutely wild about Disney’s compassionate decision here!

Sticking It to Meat: Sound of Metal

Sound of Metal movie earns PETA oscat award

This awards season frontrunner nabbed an Oscat as well, owing to the “Meat Is Murder” sticker displayed on the main character’s fridge. Sound of Metal might have been drowned out by the sound of us cheering when our favorite set design appeared.

    Best Documentary: Gunda

Gunda documentary earns PETA oscat award

Gunda may be the real-life Charlotte’s Web. With stunning black-and-white cinematography, the documentary tells the stories of mother pig Gunda and her piglets, along with two crafty cows and a “scene-stealing” one-legged chicken. Produced by PETA’s 2019 Person of the Year, Joaquin Phoenix, and directed by Victor Kossakovsky, Gunda has been called “mesmerizing,” and according to acclaimed filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, it’s “more like a potion than a movie.”

    Tech, Not Terror: Dolittle

Doolittle movie earns peta oscat award

Pay no mind to the critics and escape with Dolittle, a funny film that actually did a lot to part with the animal exploitation of its previous iterations by showcasing brilliant technology and an all-star cast. You can do[a]little more for animals, too, by avoiding any movie or TV show that forces terrified animals on set!

One to Watch: Regina King, One Night in Miami …

Regina King earns Oscat award from PETA for movie

Regina King’s feature film debut established her as the queen of compassionate directors. A talented cast and a compelling premise landed this civil rights movement narrative on every shortlist, and the absence of any forced animal performances put One Night in Miami on PETA’s, too. (And while we’re not saying that the headline-grabbing turn of King’s senior dog, Cornbread, during the director’s Golden Globes virtual acceptance speech and her subsequent shout-out to senior dogs swayed the judges’ decision, we’re not going to deny it, either.)

Best SeaWorld Snark: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, Writer and Creator Robert Carlock

Robert Carlock wins peta oscat award

Robert Carlock has always had a knack for slipping in lines that encourage compassion for animals—in 30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Mr. Mayor, just to name a few. So we weren’t surprised when we watched Kimmy vs. The Reverend to hear Kimmy utter this reminder that SeaWorld sucks: “And what about that SeaWorld documentary we thought was going to be fun but was not?”

Meta Meat-Free Moment: I’m Thinking of Ending Things

Im Thinking of Ending Things film earns Oscat award

Among the many reasons to cue up Netflix’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things, our favorite is the clever movie-within-a-movie that has one character doing what we’ve all wished we would: shouting an animal rights message in the middle of a crowded diner. Don’t miss the scene in which the love interest of a waitress yells, “Look, man, she’s a vegan … what you don’t know about this amazing woman in front of you is that she is not a waitress. Well, she is a waitress, but only to put herself through school so that she can become an animal rights lawyer. No, not a crumb of meat or dairy has crossed her lips since she was 5 years old. And she realized that a … that a hamburger is just a ground-up cow. She spent the rest of her life trying to make the world a better place for animals, and I love her!” We love her, too.

    In Memoriam Award: Cloris Leachman

Cloris Leachman wins PETA Oscats Award

It was bittersweet hearing the familiar voice of our friend Cloris Leachman starring alongside fellow PETA supporter Peter Dinklage in The Croods: A New Age. For years, Cloris was using that funny and irreverent but always kind voice to advocate for those whose voices are ignored. She promoted plant-based eating, tried to halt “ag-gag” laws, worked to free animals from circuses and marine parks, and urged everyone to spay and neuter, earning her a PETA Lifetime Achievement Award. A vegetarian since the 1950s, she enjoyed remarkable longevity in life and in her career, and her passing left a void in Hollywood and at PETA that will not soon be filled.

We encourage everyone to follow in her footsteps by speaking up for animals wherever they need help. If you witness or hear about abuse of animals on film or television sets, report it to PETA.

  • Just like other animals, fish are complex and feeling individuals with a desire to live. Yet in the commercial fishing industry, they are captured and killed on a massive scale. Thousands of tuna at a time are caught in huge nets in which some fish suffocate from the weight of others pressing against them. Larger fish are impaled using longlines with barbed hooks and then beaten until they become unconscious or are left on ice to freeze. These intelligent animals feel fear and pain, and they should be left alone instead of being killed for a fleeting taste. The good news is that there are many vegan tuna options that will help you satisfy your cravings while leaving fish off your fork.

Catch some of these delicious vegan tuna products:

The zoo in the British capital, London, is losing 1 million £ every month due to the closure and COVID-19 precautionary lock down, an index of $ 1.4 million The London Zoo is very popular with tourists from all over the world. It is the oldest zoo in the world as well as a research center with thousands of rare birds and animals and it is full of visitors and tourists all year round.

But its closure during the lockdown has caused it severe financial losses that have jeopardized its very existence, leaving employees in dire straits. Since zoo was closed for 18 weeks during lockdown in 2020, it had to lose its hands of entrance fee.

Recent lockdowns and closures have cost the zoo 2.5 million $ losses, while 20.8 million $ last year. Zoo’s chief operating officer, Catherine England, said the animals were being taken care of despite the closure and staff was fulfilling their responsibilities in these difficult situations.

It is hoped that as soon as the lockdown ends, visitors will once again flocks to the zoo in London to enjoy the zoo’s fascinating wildlife and bird chirping.

  • Each year, more fish are killed for food than all other animals combined. These intelligent animals have complex social lives and communicate with each other in ways that are strikingly familiar—with squeaks, squeals, and other sounds that can’t be heard by humans without special instruments. The seafood industry is also destroying the environment by leaving our oceans littered with trash and abandoned equipment. That’s why this Pisces season, we’re awarding six vegan restaurants across the country that are making a difference for fish by offering vegan seafood dishes. These eateries keep all animals off the menu, which means that they’re helping to combat speciesism and stop climate change while serving up delicious dishes.

Here are this year’s six picks for fabulous vegan fish dishes:

Fishless Sandwich at Earth Burger, San Antonio, Texas

Earth Burger’s vegan take on the classic fried fish sandwich is this Fishless Sandwich, which features a crispy, breaded fishless fillet with lettuce, tomato, and vegan tartar sauce on a whole wheat bun. The fillet is seasoned with seaweed flakes, which gives it a taste of the ocean without the cruelty.

Bagel & Lox at ESSEN, Cincinnati, Ohio

ESSEN calls its food “crave-worthy,” and we’d have to agree. The Bagel & Lox is a brunch staple that comes with marinated tomato lox, vegan cream cheese, capers, red onions, and dill on a locally made “everything” bagel.

Vegan Spicy Salmon at Old Abe & Co., Rochester, Minnesota

Old Abe & Co.’s fresh plant-based Spicy Salmon bowl comes with a Sriracha-spiked house salmon salad, soyaki-marinated carrot and red cabbage slaw, shelled edamame, sesame radish, crunchy chickpea puffs, and a ginger garlic gochujang aioli. It’s served atop a bed of brown sushi rice.

Fisch Fry Sandwich at Cheeze Factory Restaurant, Baraboo, Wisconsin

Cheeze Factory serves the impressive Fisch Fry Sandwich, stacked with two battered and pan-fried fillets, lettuce, tomato, red onions, pickles, and a side of house tartar sauce on a grilled ciabatta bun. It comes with your choice of a side salad or corn chips and salsa.

Vegan Tuna Salad at Kindred, New Orleans, Louisiana

We’re recognizing this vegan comfort food spot for its flavorful plant-based Tuna Salad, which is made with smashed chickpeas and served on a bed of spinach with tomato, cucumbers, red onion, avocado, croutons, and a drizzle of spicy mayo. Try Kindred’s other fish-free favorites, including the Shrimp Poboy and Tuna Sandwich while you’re at it.

Phish & Chips at Earth Aloha Eats in Lahaina, Hawaii

You can’t go wrong when choosing any of Earth Aloha Eats’ healthy and delicious fare, but we can’t get enough of the Phish & Chips. The dish features crispy golden vegan fish served over French fries with mixed greens, sprouts, rainbow coleslaw, tartar sauce, and lemon wedges.

    © Earth Aloha Eats

Currently, these restaurants are open and serving the dishes listed here. However, businesses are continuing to feel the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Please contact each establishment for updated hours and other details.

If you can’t travel to one of these restaurants, don’t worry—you can find great vegan seafood at grocery stores nationwide or through online retailers. Check out Gardein’s Golden Fishless Filets, Vegan Zeastar’s No Tuna Sashimi, or Sophie’s Kitchen Plant-Based Shrimp.

Fish and other sea animals used for food feel pain, fear, and joy. Billions of fish and shellfish are killed each year in the U.S. alone, and no matter how they’re caught, fish suffer by being crushed, impaled, suffocated, starved, or cut open and gutted while they’re still conscious. You can help stop this cruelty by always choosing vegan seafood options and going vegan:

Mena Suvari in vegan pregnancy PSA

For Mena, who has been vegan since 2017, a plant-powered pregnancy was a no-brainer. Known for her characters in iconic films like American Beauty and American Pie, she is now gearing up for the lifetime role of “mom” and is committed to raising her child with empathy and kindness.

“With everything I know about the cruelty of the meat industry and the health benefits of going vegan, I knew I wanted to raise my son to be a kind, loving, and empathetic person, and I think that can start with how we eat as a family,” she says.

Here Are 8 Vegan Baby Foods to Nurture Your Little Ones Without Hurting Animals!

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics says that being vegan is appropriate for all stages of life, from childhood to adolescence to mature adulthood (including pregnancy), and acknowledges that going vegan can provide health benefits for the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Mena joins a long list of PETA pals—including Laura Clery, Daniella Monet, Emily Deschanel, and her American Woman costar Alicia Silverstone—who have been outspoken about the benefits of a healthy vegan pregnancy. If you’re expecting, always be mindful of getting proper nutrients and consult with a physician about any dietary decisions or questions that you have during pregnancy.

Some animal-derived foods are actually considered unsafe for pregnant people, including many products containing dairy cheese. But good news! Vegan cheese is safe for almost anyone’s enjoyment—whether they’re expecting or not. Soft “cheeses”—like those from PETA favorites Kite Hill, Treeline Treenut Cheese, and Miyoko’s Kitchen—are delicious, animal-friendly, and completely pregnancy-safe. Plus, who can relate more to cows used in the dairy industry than pregnant mothers?

Mena and PETA are calling on everyone to go vegan. Doing so can help save nearly 200 animals each year and combat both climate change and world hunger. For many, being vegan improves their health by avoiding foods that contribute to the risk of suffering from heart disease, cancer, or strokes. In addition, by refusing to support the meat and dairy industries, you are showing solidarity and support for slaughterhouse workers, who are often forced to work in extremely dangerous conditions.

  • Did you know that Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, and Free People—all stores owned by Urban Outfitters, Inc.—contribute to the suffering of billions of animals who are used to make clothing and accessories? PETA and its affiliates’ investigations have revealed that crying alpacas are tied to racks and left with bloody wounds from shearing; sensitive cows are burned, electroshocked, beaten, and slaughtered for leather; sheep are punched; goats often suffer from bloody, gaping wounds at mohair and cashmere operations; and workers yank the feathers of ducks and geese out by the fistful for down. There’s no reason for these brands to continue using animals for their products, especially when so many vegan materials are readily available. • Whether you’re celebrating Dry January or Sober October, just trying to cut down on consumption, or choosing a lifetime of sobriety, nixing alcohol is commendable. However, using the bladders of killed fish or the boiled skin, tendons, ligaments, or bones of cows, pigs, or other animals (i.e., gelatin) for filtration purposes is not. It’s cruel, archaic, and gross—as is sipping on congealed secretions robbed from exploited cows or swallowing the hard-earned, stolen fruits of honeybees’ labor. Just like some alcoholic beer, wine, and spirits, certain non-alcoholic beverages haven’t caught up with consumer demand and still contain these animal-derived ingredients. So check out our guide to vegan, non-alcoholic drinks instead:

    Vegan, Non-Alcoholic Beer

For “great taste, zero alcohol,” opt for an animal-friendly Heineken 0.0 beer.

Run wild with this IPA from Athletic Brewing.

This non-alcoholic Natural Bridges Kölsch is real surreal.

For an easy-drinking beer that pairs as well with a Beyond Burger as it does with a strawberry almond kale salad, opt for Partake Brewing’s non-alcoholic Blonde.

We know and love Guinness as the stout beer that heeded consumer demand and finally went vegan in 2017. For a similar non-alcoholic brew, try Bravus’ Oatmeal Stout.

    Vegan, Non-Alcoholic Wine

Sutter Home’s Fre alcohol-removed wines are vegan! So whether you’re looking for a non-alcoholic chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, or rosé, Fre has got your and all animals’ backs.

Pierre 0% offers red, white, and rosé options as well as prestige red and white non-alcoholic wines—and all are vegan!

    Vegan, Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Wine

Pop the bubbly—the non-alcoholic, vegan bubbly from Sutter Home’s Fre Sparkling Brut, that is.

With white tea, ginger, citrus, and other natural ingredients, TÖST’s sparkling beverage is a great vegan, non-alcoholic option for any occasion.

    Vegan, Non-Alcoholic Spirits

Whether you’re making a non-alcoholic old fashioned or just enjoying alcohol-free bourbon on the rocks, Spiritless Kentucky 74 Bourbon is the vegan replacement that’ll get the job done.

For the perfect “mocktails,” try Seedlip’s lineup of distilled, vegan, non-alcoholic spirits.

Mix Kin Euphorics’ Dream Light or High Rhode with juice or tonic or try the ready-to-drink Kin Spritz for an alcohol- and animal-free beverage.
