Children enjoy special protection under the Geneva Convention.\"\n<\/p><blockquote class=\"rm-embed twitter-tweet\" data-partner=\"rebelmouse\" data-twitter-tweet-id=\"1636747023490719745\">\n<div style=\"margin:1em 0\">None<\/div> \u2014  (@)\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IntlCrimCourt\/status\/1636747023490719745\"><\/a>\n<\/blockquote>\n<script async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\"><\/script><p>\n\tUkrainian officials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/ukraine-identify-nearly-14000-children-abducted-deported-russia-1774522\" >accuse<\/a> Russian forces of taking around 14,000 children from Ukraine to Russi<strong><\/strong>a since Putin launched the invasion in February 2022.<strong><\/strong>\n<\/p><p>\n\t\"They change their citizenship, give them up for adoption under guardianship, commit sexual violence and other crimes,\" Daria Herasymchuk, the commissioner for children's rights and rehabilitation for Ukraine, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/2023\/02\/14\/russian-forces-have-taken-hundreds-of-ukrainian-children-away-from-their-families-new-repo\" >told<\/a> <em>Euronews<\/em>.\n<\/p><p>\n\tAccording to an <em>Associated Press<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/ukrainian-children-russia-7493cb22c9086c6293c1ac7986d85ef6\" >investigation<\/a> published last month:\n<\/p><blockquote style=\"margin-left: 20px;\">\n\tRussian law prohibits the adoption of foreign children without consent of the home country, which Ukraine has not given. But in May, Putin signed a decree making it easier for Russia to adopt and give citizenship to Ukrainian children without parental care\u2014and harder for Ukraine and surviving relatives to win them back.<br\/>\n<br\/>\n\tRussia also has prepared a register of suitable Russian families for Ukrainian children, and pays them for each child who gets citizenship\u2014up to $1,000 for those with disabilities.
