I got a call from him [Xi] on that. He said why are you doing that. I said we\u2019re not doing that to surround you, we\u2019re doing that to maintain stability in the Indian Ocean and in the South China Sea. He called me and told me not to do that because it was putting him in a bind. I said, All we\u2019re doing \u2014 we\u2019re not trying to surround you, we\u2019re just trying to make sure the international rules with air and sea lanes remain open.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p\nid=\"924a\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph ll lm fo ln b lo lp lq lr ls lt lu lv lw lx ly lz ma mb mc md me mf mg mh mi fh bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Biden is lying. The US is\u00a0<a\nclass=\"af mj\" href=\"https:\/\/caitlinjohnstone.substack.com\/p\/imagine-if-china-did-to-the-us-what\"  rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">deliberately surrounding China<\/a>\u00a0with war machinery and\u00a0<a\nclass=\"af mj\" href=\"https:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2013\/08\/20\/surrounded-how-the-u-s-is-encircling-china-with-military-bases\/\"  rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">has been for years<\/a>, and has rapidly escalated its efforts to do so during Biden\u2019s term. There are currently no fewer than\u00a0<a\nclass=\"af mj\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/dSkkw#selection-1287.66-1295.56\"  rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">313 US military bases<\/a>\u00a0in East Asia by the Pentagon\u2019s own admission, with the Biden administration\u00a0<a\nclass=\"af mj\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/dSkkw\"  rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">adding four new ones<\/a>\u00a0in the Philippines. Biden\u2019s war machine has been busy\u00a0<a\nclass=\"af mj\" href=\"https:\/\/caitlinjohnstone.substack.com\/p\/aukus-exists-to-manage-the-risks?utm_source=substack&amp;utm_medium=email\"  rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">instituting the AUKUS alliance<\/a>\u00a0which is specifically set up to menace China,\u00a0<a\nclass=\"af mj\" href=\"https:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/2023\/06\/21\/us-nuclear-capable-b-52-bombers-arrive-in-indonesia-for-first-time\/\"  rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">moving nuclear-capable bombers<\/a>\u00a0to Indonesia, signing a\u00a0<a\nclass=\"af mj\" href=\"https:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/2023\/06\/15\/us-military-gets-unimpeded-access-in-papua-new-guinea-under-new-deal\/\"  rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">military deal with Papua New Guinea<\/a>, working to\u00a0<a\nclass=\"af mj\" href=\"https:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/2023\/01\/10\/us-wants-to-deploy-missile-armed-marines-along-japans-okinawa-islands\/\"  rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">station missile-armed marines<\/a>\u00a0at Japan\u2019s Okinawa islands, staging\u00a0<a\nclass=\"af mj\" href=\"https:\/\/original.antiwar.com\/Dave_DeCamp\/2023\/05\/11\/to-avoid-a-war-with-china-over-taiwan-the-us-needs-to-back-down\/\"  rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">provocations in Taiwan<\/a>, and getting into\u00a0<a\nclass=\"af mj\" href=\"https:\/\/caitlinjohnstone.substack.com\/p\/china-places-country-dangerously\"  rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">increasingly confrontational encounters<\/a>\u00a0with Chinese military vessels and aircraft off China\u2019s coast as part of its\u00a0<a\nclass=\"af mj\" href=\"https:\/\/original.antiwar.com\/ted_snider\/2021\/10\/13\/if-its-not-a-cold-war-why-does-it-look-so-much-like-a-cold-war\/\"  rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">dramatically increased military presence<\/a>\u00a0in the area.<\/p>\n<p\nid=\"184a\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph ll lm fo ln b lo lp lq lr ls lt lu lv lw lx ly lz ma mb mc md me mf mg mh mi fh bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">So\u00a0<em\nclass=\"mk\">of course<\/em>\u00a0the US is trying to surround China, as evidenced by the mountains of US war machinery that are being moved into areas surrounding China. Xi\u00a0<a\nclass=\"af mj\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/mbF88\"  rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">said in a speech<\/a>\u00a0earlier this year that \u201cWestern countries \u2014 led by the U.S. \u2014 have implemented all-round containment, encirclement and suppression against us, bringing unprecedentedly severe challenges to our country\u2019s development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p\nid=\"c522\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph ll lm fo ln b lo lp lq lr ls lt lu lv lw lx ly lz ma mb mc md me mf mg mh mi fh bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">So Biden isn\u2019t trying to fool the Chinese government with his \u201cWe\u2019re not trying to surround you\u201d schtick \u2014 he\u2019s trying to fool\u00a0<em\nclass=\"mk\">you<\/em>. He\u2019s trying to fool the western public and the allies of the United States, who would get spooked if the US president openly admitted to a deliberate campaign of militarily encirclement against an economic superpower they all trade with extensively.<\/p>\n<p\nid=\"f7c1\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph ll lm fo ln b lo lp lq lr ls lt lu lv lw lx ly lz ma mb mc md me mf mg mh mi fh bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">You simply cannot understand the geopolitics and major conflicts of the 2020s without understanding that the US empire has been actively amassing military threats in the immediate surroundings of its top two rivals \u2014 China and Russia \u2014 that it would never tolerate anyone else amassing anywhere near the United States. The\u00a0<a\nclass=\"af mj\" href=\"https:\/\/caityjohnstone.medium.com\/the-single-dumbest-thing-the-empire-asks-us-to-believe-8721fb436641\" rel=\"noopener\">single dumbest thing<\/a>\u00a0the US empire asks us to believe nowadays is that surrounding its two biggest foes with war machinery is a defensive action, rather than an act of extreme aggression.<\/p>\n<p\nid=\"3816\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph ll lm fo ln b lo lp lq lr ls lt lu lv lw lx ly lz ma mb mc md me mf mg mh mi fh bj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The best advice I can offer about US-China tensions is to ignore the words and watch the actions. Ignore what officials say about wanting peace and not trying to surround China and supporting the One China policy etc, and just watch all the US war machinery that\u2019s being rapidly added to that region.
