For days local people, many of them teenagers from loyalist communities, have being fighting running battles with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). Police have also used <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-northern-ireland-56684571\">Water cannons<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org.uk\/press-releases\/northern-ireland-use-water-cannons-and-plastic-bullets-extremely-alarming\">plastic bullets<\/a> during the unrest.<\/p>\n<p>The underlying causes are complex. They include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/uk\/home-news\/northern-ireland-riots-unionists-belfast-b1828296.html\">anger<\/a> over an IRA funeral that Sinn Fein politicians attended in 2020 and what the Irish Protocol means for the Good Friday Agreement. I have never seen less UK media coverage of serious rioting. Clear the UK media is censoring events to protect the Johnson government. Democracy is hanging by a thread in the United Kingdom.
