Australia is seen as \u201csoft on human rights\u201d because it has failed to confront its own \u201cuncomfortable\u201d history including the mistreatment of First Nations people, a leading expert says.<\/p>\n
Prof Ren\u00e9e Jeffery, who specialises in human rights and foreign affairs, will say in a speech in Canberra on Thursday that Australia has failed to openly condemn \u201csome of the world\u2019s most egregious abuses\u201d, often choosing quiet diplomacy.<\/p>\n
