Here are a few examples of Canada contributing to leading international stories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There is a direct line between the downward spiral in Haiti\u2019s security situation and Canadian interference. In 2004 the US, France and Canada invaded to overthrow Haiti\u2019s elected government. Ren\u00e9 Pr\u00e9val\u2019s election two years later partly reversed the coup, but the US and Canada reasserted their control after the 2010 earthquake by <a id=\"m_-7293519953613907646OWA33caedcf-6fb4-3c89-1708-dcca991618e0\" href=\"https:\/\/springmag.ca\/canada-undermines-haitian-democracy-deja-vu-all-over-again\"  rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/springmag.ca\/canada-undermines-haitian-democracy-deja-vu-all-over-again&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1710969940215000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3z-gv8gopFVNsteZMEhg1G\">intervening<\/a>\u00a0to make Michel Martelly president. That set-in motion more than a decade of rule by the criminal PHTK party. After president Jovenel Mo\u00efse was assassinated in mid 2021 the US- and Canada-led Core Group <a id=\"m_-7293519953613907646OWA5b10b2b3-23e2-7b92-d870-38aa2c696cc8\" href=\"https:\/\/yvesengler.com\/2021\/08\/10\/canada-out-of-core-group\/\"  rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/yvesengler.com\/2021\/08\/10\/canada-out-of-core-group\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1710969940215000&amp;usg=AOvVaw12pPRf9qgqEFxq-gQXl_Ye\">selected<\/a>\u00a0Ariel Henry to lead against the wishes of civil society. In a sign of Haiti\u2019s political descent,\u00a07,000 officials were in elected positions in 2004 while today there are none.<\/li>\n<li>Last Friday former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernandez (JOH) was convicted of drug charges by a jury in New York. Pursued by the Southern District of New York against the wishes of US diplomats,\u00a0the case documented JOH\u2019s role in a murderous criminal enterprise that began under his predecessor. JOH became president after Ottawa tacitly supported the military\u2019s removal of the social democratic president Manuel Zelaya. Before his 2009 ouster Canadian officials criticized Zelaya and afterwards <a id=\"m_-7293519953613907646OWA24361f2a-4969-3720-8881-ab0b5f1cb6bb\" href=\"http:\/\/upsidedownworld.org\/news-briefs\/news-briefs-news-briefs\/o-canada-what-are-you-doing-in-honduras\/\"  rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/upsidedownworld.org\/news-briefs\/news-briefs-news-briefs\/o-canada-what-are-you-doing-in-honduras\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1710969940215000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1mHQyuQVHNqrhhynHMg55G\"> condemned his attempts<\/a>\u00a0to return to the country. Failing to suspend its military training program with Honduras, Canada was also the only major donor to Honduras\u2014the largest recipient of Canadian assistance in Central America\u2014that failed to announce it would sever aid to the military government. Six months later Ottawa endorsed an electoral farce and JOH\u2019s subsequent election marred by substantial <a id=\"m_-7293519953613907646OWA39b0ab82-8a7e-3b56-07d3-0f2f161f94ae\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2013_Honduran_general_election\"  rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2013_Honduran_general_election&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1710969940215000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0cH_cD8-VCColU-CB5eT9B\">human rights violations<\/a>. JOH then defied the Honduran constitution to run for a second term, which Canada backed.<\/li>\n<li>There\u2019s also a direct line between the 2014 Canadian-backed coup in Ukraine and Russia\u2019s devastating invasion. As Owen Schalk and I detail in <i><a id=\"m_-7293519953613907646OWA3875dc46-25db-013a-5048-e2fc5c7ad364\" href=\"https:\/\/www.barakabooks.com\/catalogue\/canadas-long-fight-against-democracy\/\"  rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.barakabooks.com\/catalogue\/canadas-long-fight-against-democracy\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1710969940215000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1fYh9HNzRt9ySNMz9JG63H\">Canada\u2019s Long <\/a><\/i><a id=\"m_-7293519953613907646OWA3875dc46-25db-013a-5048-e2fc5c7ad364\" href=\"https:\/\/www.barakabooks.com\/catalogue\/canadas-long-fight-against-democracy\/\"  rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.barakabooks.com\/catalogue\/canadas-long-fight-against-democracy\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1710969940215000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1fYh9HNzRt9ySNMz9JG63H\"><em>Fight Against Democracy<\/em><\/a>, Ottawa played a significant role in destabilizing Victor Yanukovich and pushing the elected president out. Yanukovich\u2019s ouster propelled Moscow\u2019s seizure of Crimea and a civil war in the east, which Russia massively expanded two years ago.<\/li>\n<li>In an episode symbolic of Canadian influence and interference, Peru\u2019s Prime Minister Alberto Ot\u00e1rola Pe\u00f1aranda cut short his trip to the Prospectors &amp; Developers Association of Canada conference in Toronto last week to resign. Implicated in a love affair\/corruption scandal, Pe\u00f1aranda became prime minister after the December 2022 ouster of elected leftist president Pedro Castillo. Ottawa supported the \u2018usurper\u2019 government that suspended civil liberties and deployed troops to the streets. Global Affairs and Canada\u2019s ambassador to Peru Louis Marcotte worked hard to shore up support for the replacement government through a series of diplomatic meetings and statements.<\/li>\n<li>Canada\u2019s intervention to undermine Palestinian democracy has also enabled Israel&#8217;s mass slaughter and starvation campaign in Gaza. After Hamas won legislative elections in 2006, Canada was the first country to impose sanctions against the Palestinians. Ottawa\u2019s aid cut-off and refusal to recognize a Palestinian unity government was designed to sow division within Palestinian society. It helped spur fighting between Hamas and Fatah. When Hamas took control of Gaza, Israel used that to justify its siege of the 360 square kilometre coastal strip and series of deadly campaigns that left 6,000 Palestinians dead before October 7.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While the media reported the above-mentioned stories, they refuse to discuss Ottawa\u2019s negative role. Instead of holding our governments to account and describing Canadian subversion the media sphere focuses on foreign interference by our designated \u2018enemies\u2019 that\u2019s had little demonstratable negative impact.
