President Trump is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/archive\/2020\/12\/trumps-farcical-inept-and-deadly-serious-coup-attempt\/617309\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">trashing democracy<\/a> on his way out the door and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/mcconnell-and-mccarthy-say-they-believe-in-democracy--but-stand-by-as-trump-incinerates-it\/2020\/12\/07\/3125c8ae-38cb-11eb-98c4-25dc9f4987e8_story.html\"  rel=\"noopener\">congressional Republicans are complicit<\/a>. Abetted by nearly all leading Republicans, Trump is actively trying to undo the results of a free and fair election while inciting violence.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Republican Party long ago embraced the unpredictable Trump base\u2014you know, the base that likes to torment <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/12\/07\/opinion\/republicans-civility-benson.html\"  rel=\"noopener\">election workers<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2020\/12\/09\/idaho-coronavirus-protest-homes\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">public health officials<\/a>. If anyone in the party dares question Trump or his lies, they are threatened that they\u2019ll be challenged by a true Trump believer in the next election, or much worse.<\/p>\n<p>Even though all signs point to Trump leaving the White House on January 20, a Congress filled with Trump cultists and a judicial system overloaded with Trump appointments does not bode well for our future, even with Joe Biden as President.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"syndicated-attribution\">This post was originally published on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiofree.org\/2020\/12\/11\/america-second\/\">Radio Free<\/a>. <\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is now even more obvious that America First really means America second.
