Human rights commissioner says junta is \u2018singularly responsible for crisis\u2019 ahead of ousted leader\u2019s trial<\/p>
Myanmar has descended into a \u201chuman rights catastrophe\u201d, the UN\u2019s top human rights official has warned in the run-up to the scheduled start of the trial of Myanmar\u2019s ousted leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, who faces criminal charges that could lead to decades in prison.<\/p>
Aung San Suu Kyi, who previously spent a total of 15 years in detention at the behest of Myanmar\u2019s generals and is widely revered domestically as a symbol of the country\u2019s yearning for democracy, is expected to appear in court in Naypyidaw on Monday.<\/p> Continue reading...<\/a>\n
