Three white residents receive a COVID-19 vaccine for every Black or Latino person in the city, according to new demographic data released by the mayor\u2019s office on Sunday.<\/p>\n
At a press briefing, Mayor Bill de Blasio said there was a \u201cprofound disparity\u201d about seven weeks into the city\u2019s vaccination program.<\/p>\n
\u201cClearly, what we see is a particularly pronounced reality of many more people from white communities getting vaccination than folks from Black and Latino communities,\u201d de Blasio told reporters. The vast difference in vaccine coverage shows the city\u00a0isn\u2019t meeting its pledge\u00a0for\u00a0equitable distribution.<\/p>\n
The mayor said supply problems were central to the challenge of distributing vaccines equitably across communities of color.<\/p>\n
