The world is threatened with environmental disaster and capitalists hope to make a killing off of it.\u00a0 Fossil fuel (FF) companies claim they are \u201cenvironmentally friendly.\u201d\u00a0 Other corporations promote nuclear energy, hydro-power (dams), and solar and wind power as the best energy alternatives.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Yet environmentalists have known for decades that reduction of useless and harmful energy is the \u201cgreenest\u201d form of energy available.\u00a0 Over 50 years ago, the first Earth Day recognized this with the slogan \u201cReduce; Reuse; Recycle.\u201d\u00a0 Today, corporate \u201cenvironmentalism\u201d chants \u201cRecycle; Occasionally Reuse; and, Never Utter \u2018Reduce.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 Even mentioning the word \u201creduce\u201d can be met with howls of derision that \u201cReduction means \u2018austerity,\u2019\u201d as if any type of collective self-control would plunge the world into depths of suffering.\u00a0<\/p>\n
