{"id":244760,"date":"2021-07-19T21:19:51","date_gmt":"2021-07-19T21:19:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.innovationaus.com\/?p=20291"},"modified":"2021-07-19T21:19:51","modified_gmt":"2021-07-19T21:19:51","slug":"dominello-on-the-reallocation-of-digital-resources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radiofree.asia\/2021\/07\/19\/dominello-on-the-reallocation-of-digital-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Dominello on the reallocation of digital resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The extended coronavirus pandemic<\/strong> had forced \u201ca massive reallocation of resources\u201d and a rethinking of priorities in the NSW government\u2019s digital service delivery program, with a number planned programs put on ice, according to the state\u2019s Digital minister Victor Dominello.<\/p>\n<p>But the urgency of both the health crisis and the economic fall-out had resulted in an accelerated digital transformation of public services and dramatically changed the relationship between citizens and the state government.<\/p>\n<p>In this episode of the Commercial Disco, Mr Dominello talks at length about the re-ordering of digital priorities, and points to the specific programs that rapidly accelerated the uptake of the Service NSW app.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; min-width: min(100%, 430px);\" title=\"Victor Dominello, NSW Minister for Customer Service and Minister for Digital\" src=\"https:\/\/www.podbean.com\/player-v2\/?i=4euzc-1091637-pb&amp;from=embed&amp;share=1&amp;download=1&amp;skin=f6f6f6&amp;btn-skin=8bbb4e&amp;size=150\" width=\"100%\" height=\"150\" scrolling=\"no\" data-name=\"pb-iframe-player\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In the process, the mass take-up of the \u2018Dine and Discover\u2019 vouchers launched as an economic stimulus initiative in the NSW state budget last November \u2013 more than 5 million people have registered for the vouchers, which required a 100-point ID check \u2013 had profoundly changed the nature of digital identity, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can say there were a whole lot of things that I would have expected to deliver through the [Customer Service] agency over the past 18 months that have definitely been put back in the hanger while we\u2019ve taken steps to open up the economy or protect people in terms of QR systems and things like that,\u201d Mr Dominello said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut one of the things I have really driven the agency to not lose sight of, is that with all of this amazing change that\u2019s taking place, let\u2019s drag the silver lining out of this. Dine and Discover was a budget initiative announced last November aimed at stimulating the local economy by encouraging people to dine out or visit a tourist attraction.<\/p>\n<p>The program used the public acceptance of the QR code (and the QR infrastructure the state had built into its Service NSW app) and bundled it with the state\u2019s experience in digital licencing and 100-point checks, and its digital payment infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Dine and Discover was a $500 million program to put targeted money into the hospitality and tourism sector. It was simple and effective.<\/p>\n<p>But the big pay-off for the state has been in the take-up \u2013 in building a digital relationship with verified citizens through its 100-point ID check.
