The government and the ACCC<\/strong> have been working for a long time on a News Media Bargaining code. The government says it is about ensuring the future of a robust and diverse media landscape. You might think this is about who pays for news, but it is about so much more.<\/p>\n In late January,\u00a0Josh Frydenberg<\/a>\u00a0was quoted in the Nine owned SMH saying,<\/p>\n \u201cMy view is that it is inevitable that the digital giants will be paying for original content\u2026 we are now in a position to implement a world leading code \u2013 one that is fair, taking into account mutual value exchange \u2026 and we think it is a fair outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n Sounds reasonable right?\u00a0But the legislation currently on the table has nothing to do with fairness.\u00a0It\u2019s really complex<\/a>\u00a0and, it appears, designed to confuse.<\/p>\n
