Proposed amendments allow government to sanction individuals for \u2018gross human rights violations\u2019 or serious corruption<\/p>

Foreign government officials could face sanctions for \u201cgross human rights violations\u201d while corrupt business people could be banned from travelling to Australia and have their assets and bank accounts frozen.<\/p>

New sanctions powers \u2013 announced by the Morrison government on Thursday and expected to be presented to parliament by the end of the year \u2013 will allow Australia to target \u201cperpetrators of egregious acts of international concern\u201d.<\/p>
