{"id":2771,"date":"2020-12-17T20:12:44","date_gmt":"2020-12-17T20:12:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiofree.org\/?p=140563"},"modified":"2020-12-17T20:12:44","modified_gmt":"2020-12-17T20:12:44","slug":"fiji-declares-state-of-disaster-as-tc-yasa-wreaks-havoc-in-vanua-levu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radiofree.asia\/2020\/12\/17\/fiji-declares-state-of-disaster-as-tc-yasa-wreaks-havoc-in-vanua-levu\/","title":{"rendered":"Fiji declares state of disaster as TC Yasa wreaks havoc in Vanua Levu"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pf-content\">\n<p><em>By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rnz.co.nz\/international\/pacific-news\/\">RNZ Pacific<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Many houses in Fiji&#8217;s Vanua Levu have been destroyed, some families sheltered under beds and tables in their houses and others in cane plantations, as Cyclone Yasa wreaked havoc in many parts of the Northern Division, <i>Fiji Village <\/i>reports<i>. <\/i><\/p>\n<p>Buildings and crops were been destroyed in Fiji&#8217;s second largest island and there&#8217;s been widespread flooding and landslides.<\/p>\n<p>Fiji had earlier declared a state of natural disaster.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fijitimes.com\/tc-yasa-fiji-declares-state-of-natural-disaster\/\"><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> Fiji declares state of natural disaster<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yasa is heading south through the Southern Lau Island group.<\/p>\n<p>In Bua, some people had to flee as their houses disintegrated in the wind.<\/p>\n<p>In Koro, destructive winds and heavy rain are being felt in Nasau Village and people have been relocated to two evacuation centres.<\/p>\n<p>Panapasa Nayabakoro, who lives in Koro, said 32 people are sheltering at the Nasau Health Centre and the rest are in a school.
