Campaigners say racers will pass jail holding Loujain al-Hathloul while kingdom \u2018sportwashes\u2019 its reputation <\/p>
Supporters of women\u2019s rights activist Loujain al-Hathloul, who campaigned for women\u2019s right to drive in Saudi Arabia<\/a>, have called for a boycott of the Dakar Rally for \u201csportswashing\u201d the reputation of the conservative kingdom while Hathloul remains in prison.<\/p> Racers in the off-road competition \u2013 including 12 women \u2013 are this week due to pass within a few hundred metres of Riyadh\u2019s Al-Ha\u2019ir prison, where Hathloul is being held.<\/p> This article was amended on 5 January 2021.
