{"id":649056,"date":"2022-05-10T19:28:07","date_gmt":"2022-05-10T19:28:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/radiofree.asia\/?guid=eed49641a59c43106431d50ea10c93a5"},"modified":"2022-05-10T19:28:07","modified_gmt":"2022-05-10T19:28:07","slug":"far-right-oan-admits-georgia-election-officials-didnt-steal-election-from-trump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radiofree.asia\/2022\/05\/10\/far-right-oan-admits-georgia-election-officials-didnt-steal-election-from-trump\/","title":{"rendered":"Far Right OAN Admits Georgia Election Officials Didn\u2019t Steal Election From Trump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Far right conservative cable channel <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One America News Network<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OAN<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) produced a 30-second segment this week in which the network finally appears to admit that their previous reports on election fraud were wildly inaccurate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/oan-finally-admits-no-widespread-voter-fraud-by-georgia-election-workers-after-settling-defamation-lawsuit\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The segment includes the names of two election workers in Georgia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Wandrea &#8220;Shaye&#8221; Moss and Ruby Freeman, Moss&#8217;s mother \u2014 and notes that investigations into their work during the 2020 presidential election found that they did not engage in fraudulent activities, as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OAN <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and other media supportive of former President Donald Trump had previously suggested.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;The results of this investigation indicate that Ruby Freeman and Wandrea \u2018Shaye\u2019 Moss did not engage in ballot fraud or criminal misconduct,&#8221; a narrator says during the segment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"OAN admits no voter fraud in Georgia\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CRPF6Gqq5_Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The video appears to be in response to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/two-atlanta-poll-workers-settle-defamation-lawsuit-against-one-america-2022-04-21\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a lawsuit that was settled last month<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> between the election workers and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OAN<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The details of that settlement have been kept quiet, but within the segment, the narrator notes that &#8220;a legal matter with this network and the two election workers has been resolved to the mutual satisfaction of the parties through a fair and reasonable settlement.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moss and Freeman had sued <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OAN <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and other media companies, as well as members of Trump\u2019s inner circle like Rudy Giuliani, for defamation after a conspiracy theory about them spread through far right conservative circles, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/two-atlanta-poll-workers-settle-defamation-lawsuit-against-one-america-2022-04-21\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">alleging without any evidence that they had created batches of illegal ballots<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and ran them through voting machines in order to help President Joe Biden win the state of Georgia. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OAN <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">had spread the conspiracy theory in its segments after the election took place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the settlement was reached between Moss, Freeman and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OAN<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Michael Gottlieb, a lawyer for the election workers, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/two-atlanta-poll-workers-settle-defamation-lawsuit-against-one-america-2022-04-21\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said that the two believed the agreement that was reached was<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8220;fair and reasonable.&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The damage from the conspiracy theory that <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OAN <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">helped promulgate is demonstrable. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/oan-finally-admits-no-widespread-voter-fraud-by-georgia-election-workers-after-settling-defamation-lawsuit\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moss and Freeman were harassed online and in real life<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> due in part to the network\u2019s propagandizing, they said in their lawsuit. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The network\u2019s false reports were cited by a number of high-profile individuals to allege that fraud had taken place. Trump used Freeman&#8217;s name 18 times during an infamous phone call seeking to get Georgia officials to &#8220;find&#8221; him enough votes to overturn Biden&#8217;s win. A publicist for rapper Kanye West also threatened Freeman, trying to get her to confess to committing fraud, as a result of the conspiracy theory\u2019s spread.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is no evidence that widespread fraud changed the outcome of the 2020 presidential race \u2014 in Georgia or elsewhere. But in spite of that fact, polling shows that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/01\/07\/republicans-big-lie-trump\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a significant number of Republican voters still believe that Biden&#8217;s win was illegitimate<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
