U.S. officials never declared an end to the \u201cWar on Terror,\u201d although the wars of the George W. Bush years in Afghanistan and Iraq gradually faded into memory. While the rhetoric of \u201canti-terrorism\u201d is not what it once was in the heyday of U.S. wars fought during the 2000s, to say that the threat of war has dissipated would be a serious mistake.
