Currently, asylum support is just \u00a35.84 per day:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"jMdE9wnRK0EoegphgmR8JAvnDPlICIu2ZyoQO7G85sHrpT5J4UfkWLSfZet1CkaHQ6tVKqjcY7NbiL3axBXTNsrhxMq3AcYSz\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">New analysis shows value of asylum support payments &#8211; currently \u00a35.84\/day per person &#8211; has fallen 27% in real terms since 2000 due to inflation. High inflation this year will likely erode support further <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/txPDzDXG70\">pic.twitter.com\/txPDzDXG70<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; MigrationObservatory (@MigObs) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MigObs\/status\/1560636040473296904?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 19, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Observatory <a href=\"https:\/\/migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk\/resources\/briefings\/migration-to-the-uk-asylum\/\">writes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>increases have not kept up with inflation. In real terms, the payment level in 2022 is 27% lower than in 2000 (in 2000, \u00a35.22 bought \u00a38 worth of goods and services in 2021 GBP). Since the single asylum support payment was introduced in 2015, the level of the payment has fallen in real terms<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Refugees forced into destitution<\/h2>\n<p>People on asylum support are not allowed to work or claim state benefits while their claim is being processed. This means they are forced to subsist on under \u00a36 a day.<\/p>\n<p>Asylum support is available to those with an ongoing asylum claim. However, almost a quarter of asylum applications <a href=\"https:\/\/www.refugeecouncil.org.uk\/information\/refugee-asylum-facts\/top-10-facts-about-refugees-and-people-seeking-asylum\/\">are refused<\/a>. Those who are refused are denied support, and have to go through a lengthy appeal process that may take years. Many of them are rendered destitute, as they are still unable to work legally in the UK or claim any kind of support from the state.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.refugeecouncil.org.uk\/information\/refugee-asylum-facts\/top-10-facts-about-refugees-and-people-seeking-asylum\/\">The Refugee Council reports<\/a> that since the government pulled out of the Dublin III Regulations, many people arriving have been informed that they will be removed from the UK without their claim even being looked at.<\/p>\n<h2>Part of the state&#8217;s attack on refugees<\/h2>\n<p>The cuts to asylum support payments are just one part of the attacks on refugees arriving in the UK that have been carried out by successive UK governments, and are part of the colonial DNA of the British state.
